Hi, got a GuideML query, I'm trying to draw some diagrams using table boxes in GuideML and have a query on how to do something. Here the code I've written so far. Put this into an entry or something so you can see what I've done, the double box in the middle, how do I split it so that there is a blank, ie clear daylight, space between of a size of my own choosing but having them on the same line?. I'm trying to draw a molecular orbtal diagram so I need to have molecular orbitals in the middle with the contributing atomic orbitals as each side. If I can't do it this way is there a different way where I can draw an empty box on each side on the same line with out using the cheat?

I went and had a look at it in your other guide entry because I wasn't quite sure what you were talking about. I'm still not. smiley - winkeye

However, you might not realise that you can put tables inside tables, specify the vertical and horizontal alignments of each cell and even glue multiple cells in columns and/or rows together. You might want something like an invisible surrounding formatting table with 3 columns and rows and put the big thingy in the middle etc:

top thing
left big thing right
bottom thing

cell alignment tag options are:
ALIGN="CENTER" or "RIGHT" or "LEFT" (default)
VALIGN="TOP" or "BOTTOM" or "MIDDLE" (default)

PS my HTML book can't agree with itself on whether VALIGN should be CENTER or MIDDLE. I originally typed CENTER before double-checking and seeing it said MIDDLE, but on redouble-checking further pages (this is getting too much like Bridge) it said CENTER elsewhere. Go figure! smiley - weird

If you have a look at what I've made at the bottom of the page in A986835 there's a diagram with a box at the top and a box at the bottom. I want the things at each side which look like --- to be boxes just like the ones already there. Can you make different cells in the same table have different borders?

Hi SEF

SEF

Yes, you just nest another TABLE inside the cell as I said before.

Thanks SEF, the tables within a table idea worked a treat smiley - cheers Guess I'll have to sit down an properly edit them both now, I'm sure they're a little jumbled.

Good! smiley - biggrin

Don't forget that with images too complex to draw this way you can always insert a normal LINK to outside space for the benefit of readers or the Editors rather than use the cheat. If the outside space is "permanent" and official then the link may be kept. If the image is in personal space or would be better embedded within the text then you may get an onsite blob made out of it.

Morning smiley - smiley, how are you this undecided-miserable/fine day? (just decide, rain or sunshine!) I've done most of the editing in my entries parts 1 and 2, may change a couple of the links, try and find more official and academic sites for reference diagrams but anyway. Would you possibly mind having a quick look at them before I submit for review (a bit scared about that now after what you told me though smiley - erm...) Thanks

Rain.

I think a lot of people are a bit scared about Peer Review but not because I've said anything to them. Then there are others who aren't scared and submit all sorts of strange things which people have to tell them to remove. At least you're doing splendid and worthwhile yellow ...er... articles. The only other warning I might give is to watch out for Bels who seems strangely fractious but I'd better not say any more.

I've read half the first one (A986556) now. It's looking better. I have to resist the urge to say I wouldn't explain it that way because this is your project not mine. A couple of things which would probably come up in review anyway:

"all three particle are" -> "all three particles are"
"small and allows the" -> "small and it allows the"
"adaquately" -> "adequately" (export to Word? and use a spell-checker)

"write a VB wavefunction" - you suddenly slip into using the abbreviation VB for valence bond without explicitly saying you are going to do this. It is normally sensible to introduce an abbreviation fairly early on and then stick to it. You could also have a list of terms at the start/end.

You are probably as ready for Peer Review as anyone. It's up to you when you hit that button... smiley - biggrin

...and they don't have computers in the USA?!

You should subscribe to the h2g2 Announcements page at A639056 if you want to keep track of what's new on the site. To do this go to the page and click on the link at the bottom which says subscribe. Then you will automatically get in your conversation list any new threads attached to that page. You'll have to read the backlog for yourself though. was a slightly more secretive than usual feature...

Hmmm, I've had them both up for peer review for a day now and have had no replies, is that a good or a bad thing? Oh, well, give it the mandatory week and see I suppose

It can take a while. There might not be anyone around fit to comment - though that wouldn't normally stop them! It would probably have been simpler in some ways if you had gone through the h2g2 University. I'll see if I can poke someone... smiley - run

You been naughty???

Just popped into your space and there's a message saying that you've contravened house rules (?@:>*(&*%£*?????????) What's that all about?

naughty? but nice

Post 16

Actually I hadn't contravened any of the written house rules or terms and conditions at all. The PS was pending all last night with no explanation and was only failed this morning. I just received an email giving me incorrect information (basically about the thing you already know, so you can check the rules yourself). I suspect it's all part of an ongoing vendetta... smiley - sadface

Yes, I think they know they are in the wrong (as usual) and hate it. They are currently wriggling on their own badly written rules. The bit they just quoted at me was "currently on h2g2 you can only post text" which is a factually incorrect statement not a rule. Note the use of the word "can" and the original context is ignoring Smileys, Blobs, links, table art using cells and text art too. Note also that what I posted _was_ text. It merely transformed itself into a picture as do all those other things.

Well I hope you get your space back to normal soon, off for lunch and the weekend now so have a good one, speak to you on Monday. Take care

Hi SEF, how was your weekend? Mine was okay, didn't require all that much recovering after that ball on Friday, goo night though smiley - ale. Anyway, I see you've had to remove some of the decoration from your space smiley - sadface. I'd already decorated mine after trawling the community artists pages and the catalogue before having read your message from Fri afternoon...
