Hi SEF

Oh, you mean the Tetris graphic. You're right, I could have supplied a mean brick wall . In the office we even have such fascinating devices as brick dimension tables *yawn*.
Haven't checked the Tetris graphic yet, will go and look now...

By code I meant that we are not supposed to mention future stuff on the public site. The one I meant was the previous possible tesselation - a window being only one option discussed, but the one which I thought would carry some meaning for you. Clearly not!

It carried plenty of meaning. I posted the pictures in the photo folder to help with the discussion about windows and geometrical forms. But by then someone had already taken it.
I'm down for a Talking Point graphic in the coming weeks. I don't have the time to do as many graphics as most of the other folks in the group, certainly can't make any promises with the short deadlines - that's why I didn't jump in and offer to do it.

I'm a bit jealous of your brick dimension tables. The last couple of times I had to do such things I had to make my own measurements! I thought most of that sort of stuff was programmed into the CAD software these days though. Certainly that's how other family members work.

Depends what you're doing - and whether or not the product your using is based on metric or imperial. The building trade doesn't understand the idea of standardisation. Most windows don't even equal an even number of bricks. So you end up having to cut the brick .
If I'm doing 3D work I can get it to tell me how many bricks are in the building. But you tend to look unnecessarily smug when you announce it.

The building trade is also a bit hazy on the concept of right angles. You probably shouldn't go round announcing exact numbers of bricks in the office though - it does sound a bit "sad". Wouldn't you normally order a number of pallets of them rather than individual ones anyway?

Yep. But the guy with the cheque book needs to be told the exact figure down to the last penny. That way he can nail you with any later discrepancy and have the shirt off your back.

I just ran into a conversation you had at the end of 1999 about rock-climbing. The other researcher involved never came back.
PS Perhaps I should have posted on it to see if you were still subscribed and waiting for a reply. Surreal. Oh well, too late now as I didn't make a note of it (though I might be able to find it again if it mattered).

Sheesh, that's quite a while ago. I've unsubscribed. The guy I was talking to stopped visiting h2g2 I think. I was looking at doing a collaborative article about bouldering. Don't get much chance to climb these days though, I'm probably not the best guy to lead an article on it. Taken up fencing recently instead.

How are you? Just stopped by to let you know that I'm still around. I've been finding it difficult to give any time to h2 lately. But I see from the Yahoo group that you're still asking all the tricky questions.
I may have to duck out of the CA stuff, I don't think I can give it the time that it deserves and the recent thread about workload makes me think that I should let somebody else give it a go who can be more productive. Although, seeing my talking point graphic on the front page may make me rethink... I'll think about it over the weekend and post something on the group.
Hope you are well.

I think Mina was moderately happy with even a 1 a month commitment. I don't see that you leaving the group is going to make the workload less!
As for those "tricky" questions, mine are usually fairly pointed (even if not always understood) - and unlike Jimster's assertion I (and Wotchit) clearly had read the original stipulations. I think Amy once said that she (and possibly others) just simply ignore Jimster.
Anyhow there's more going on than is visible in just the CA group...
