Hi Nick

I've been meaning to visit this site and send a quick note but have just got around to doing it now. (I think my current motivation is closely linked to procrastinating on an assignment).

Thought you'd be interested to know that a few of your former ICC students have been wondering how you're going. Most of us are all still studying hard.

Hope everything is going well for you and the journey has been successful to date.

Best regards
Carolyn Bimrose

Carolyn,

Lovely to hear from you - we just sailed into Capetown last night - 72 days out from Scotland.

Lots of interesting virtual communication issues have arisen with this whole project!

Hope you have had a chance to explore our pages on H2G2 and also the online mapping site that Susan Cowan is driving.

The Iridium phone is proving pretty good for sending and receiving data - albeit slow and expensive in land based terms but reliable so far. Sailmail (data over HF radio) hasn't worked so well in the South Atlantic. But yes lots of interesting issues - more another time.

We aim to depart 25 October and be into Melbourne in the first week of ?December. Maybe you and the others would like to come and have a look at the set up? We'll be at Sandringham YC initially then in at Victoria Dock over the weekend.

Trust your studies have continued to go well.

Hope to see you in December

Nick
