You would learn a lot by taking the h2g2 tour.
You mind find it difficult to follow but it will be well worth the trouble and it will help you with the language.

Sweetheart Brit: you are really very kind to help me. You must be really a very nice " guy". ( No insult, just "american" slang which I learned here and I know there is a much better language to speak.)

" The Bird" story is an experiment in many ways. I learned that my WORD program is too complicated to transfer from my computer. From Note Pad which is a very basic, simple program would be no complication. But I am used to work with Microsoft Word and Works "fancy" formatting and I am unhappy that h2g2 puts me under limitations.

There is an extremely nice fellow : Woodpidgeon by nickname, who instructed me to go with Note Pad. I don't know if I really want to work like a " child in a sandbox",--- when I know about much more sophisticated way of doing things. ( Technically speaking). One does not want to go backwards when learned better. However I am aware that this is a question of technology. My equipment and every program is very new, just one year old, and you know how fast improvments coming today.

My friends who have the same qualifications enjoy very much my communication which involves a lot of pictures: drawings, fotos, compicated lettering, background tricks,- lot of colors---- but even here to those with less qualified equipment I can not send my messages.

Til a certain extend I am surprised. But perhaps this is not BBC, but h2g2--- which is " under construction." Hopefuly growing fast.

The posting of an entry is an other question depending on the content of it. It can go to the writing workshop, or peer review, guide entry for editing etc.--- The place I put it is a less frequently visited and it was good to see, that it does not work as it is. I will delete it as I removed already the front page from My Space.

I also decited to start with new ID and will say Good Bye to Jung Wing. I learned a lot, but now it is time to move on, because I'd like to do more than just " chatting".

Right now I have to figure out what program can I use which is satisfacroty both ways. Jung Wing will be there, til I am ready with the introduction of Home Page for my new ID. I will notify the Community. As you see Dear (?) Brit Friend: I have technical difficulty momentarely. Thank you very much for your attention and kind help. J.W.

Thank you " Ancient Friend", I feel a bit stuck with my technical problem. The tour recommended by you is some what known ( by me),---Lo and Behold I got a talking book from the library to listen to the "Hitchhikers..." DNA book. The british accent made it for me 50% understandandable!... I gave it back before finishing it, but now I give an other try...
As a personal thing: I am allergic to alcohol, I smell it from a mi away' There are too many times coming up on the pages of h2g2 by many members the use of this chemical which alters one's thinking, behavior etc.

This is not the way I treat my brain for inspiration.

But that is not my business who does what--- though I might feel sorry if I can not help stopping " self-destructive" actions.
I lost a husband for destroying himself with smoking, though I was divorced from him long before. I remember how helpless one can feel trying to fight for something better,-- and fail. Make the long story short: I DON'T LIKE PEOPLE DRINKING OUT OF "WACK".

Now I am working on the solution to write my INTRODUCTION the " fancy" way I would like to present, because for example there is a member: pheloxi who did a most beautiful job. He lives in Netherland. Unfortunately Netherland refuse to deliver my E-mail to the address he gave!!! Cheers.J.W.

You found my reference to talking books. This tells me that you have taken the tour and can get around h2g2 very well. The book will not be easy to follow by someone learning the English language. I would not be able the understand the title if it was in Hungarian . I admire your efforts. If your real interest is art, have you been to the Community Art Library. I understand your dislike for beer and tobacco. I used to smoke but gave it up 20 years ago, but I must confess to drinking and enjoying the odd pint of beer now and again.

I must admit " Ancient Brit" that you are honestly a very caring also sharing, naturally: mature man. Yeah, because it really comes with certain time in life, that maturity brings out such wonderful human attitude, which is not there for the very young. I appreciated and thank you for your kindness.

I was very busy today with painting and that is more relaxing than trying to understand and work with a system like h2g2, which is " under construction".

I also admit, the task to establish a communication system as big as this wants to be,-- definetly not easy. But I do not understand why can not be made more simple??? I can see from other people's postings, that they are just as confused and not sure if this goes here, or there or where??? One have to have lot of patient to hold on. I used to spend more time on the computer, but I did cut down. I am booked within a year with 3 Solo Art Exhibition and I have to create good stuff.

It would take more time to get faster ahead in h2g2, but now I just can not afford it.

Have a glass of beer, drink it to your health: I meant drinking in excess: til getting drunk, that is not my cup of tea.

You do not need GML to enjoy h2g2. It is only necessary if you want to make official Guide Entries and of course to make you Personal Space look pretty. I realise that you are an artist and would like to use it but I only use it when I feel I have to. Fot the rest of the time I just use Plain Text. You can not use GML in conversations in any case, the system will not let you .
My space is just Plain Text U197657 not pretty but functional.
I have a Guide entry A802919 Ancient Brit's GuideML - Test Centre that I use to learn about GML, you can join me by starting a new conservation there if you wish.

All the DNA sites (H2g2 - Collective - Book of the Future etc.) are part of BBCi and are gowing in popularity. For some reason BBCi decided to make changes to the way people register with these sites.
What you have done is to create a new identity when this was not necessary. You should have used the 'sign in' box for Returning BBCi members with your old name and password.
You now have two identities:
U211101 - 'gecko' - Your Old One and
U517162 - 'geccko' - Your New One
You should still be able to go to your old space using the name and password that you always used in the 'sign in' box for Returning BBCi Members.

If you want to give up the new 'geccko' identity U517162 and use only your original 'gecko' identity U211101 you could just forget about it or email this address. - [email protected] - telling them your problem.

My dearest Help: Ancient Brit: it is amazing how knowledgable you are all around h2g2 and everything else.
I was not able to post for 2 days here: got sick from the flu shot, had fever and stayed in bed.
Nothing serious, because the viruses are dead in the vaccine, so it does not get so bad as a " virulent" virus.

However got E-mail today from BBCi again asking me to register with gisela0026! I did not do it yet, because it is going to be trouble again.
gisela0026 is an existing account with Yahoo, where all my science correspondence goes on!
I have the impression, that those people who do these changes, not sure what the consequence are.
For me to conduct a relible conversation sequence in h2g2 is plenty to deal with! I have no time to correspond on an other line, with other ID!
I have not painted a picture since many weeks! For November I have to put up again a show, however this is small and make no party eighter.

I'd like to write with couple of interesting subject to post on the h2g2 forums,-- not a Guide Entry, with editing and all those complications. I like the simple very personal language with lively, witty notes in it, and not to send for Peer Review or any other supervisor! I am not a professional writer and don't want to be. But what I write has informational value, has very enjoyable personal flavor and so much for that.
I will write on Word Pad and Copy-Paste where ever would be the best for h2g2 people to read.
I wrote down this thread: HELP FROM ANCIENT BRIT" which you picked up from "old" times, and I will look for the reply here. OK?

This is the only way to get to MY SPACE where I used to be: I type in the entire address what you gave me.
If I want to sign in by clicking on h2g2 only geccko comes to collective. I deleted the whole converstaion there, but the same ID remains.
I wrote to the Membership people but they don't seem to care at all.
Have no idea who does what and why? It certainly does not help for anything and makes no sence, because with this Web page I can go on and Ancient Brit runs my business because: who seeks will find ; so very true!
Now I will work on a nice page with GML.
Otherwise the weather is crazy here: one day beautiful, next day flood warning, than stops, than goes again the pouring rain!
Now getting very colorful here, the ground is covered with leaves, but when the sun shines it is just brilliant site this region. We have very many different kind of trees and the place can be spectacular for a month.
Dear Friend: we did not have some normal conversation since some time. How is by you? How is the Family? How are your birds?

You do not have to enter the long URL every time.
You can click on U211101. This will take you to you Personal Space. Click on that page with Right Hand mouse button, from the drop down table click on 'Create Shortcut'. Then click 'OK' to put the Shortcut on your DeskTop.
You can Drag this shortcut to a convenient place on you Desk Top and use it to enter your Prsonal Space. Just sign in from that page using you old name and password. The short cut will remain on your desktop until you remove it.

We have put our clocks back one hour in anticipation of winter, this has the effect of giving us more daylight during normal working hours.
The birds still get up at the same time every morning but they are sensible creatures who do not let the clock rule their lives.

I am back Ancient Brit! Today here is November 4, 2003 and also was Election Day!

The Halloween adventure brought mixed feelings in me.

Saturday and Sunday I set up my show at the Library. It was OK, with the help of a nice guy, who works at the Library.
We had in these days of the beginning of November record heat temp.s!
Hit 80 F.--
Today is back to cool, miserable November weather drizzeling all day.

I just printed 7 ( SEVEN) pages of my E-mail communications with Membership People.
Now everybody puts in a lot of work to get MY Space and a year work back on track.
Got instruction in several steps, what to do, but before I touch anything with all kinds of changes, I wonder if I can reach you, because I know that YOU CAN HELP!!!
As it is now I am coming to this page on your instructions, and it works it is fine.
This works. The only thing, that my name is spelled Geccko. But I would not mind now, because I just say: My name is Gecko and I am the same "old" cold blooded lizard.
If you interested I could tell you what would I have to do as Membership people tell me, but like I say: what you said me to get to my old page works, and this is what I would do for now on. What do you say?
Since 2 months I did not communicate with anybody friends at h2g2!
It would be time to look for many other people I had such a good time with.

The 'Personal Space'that I have told you how to find is the original one.
You should have your 'Friends List' and 'Journal' and anything that you have done under the name of 'Gecko'. It will always be there. Use it as you always did.

Your name and password can be changed by 'clicking' on the box 'Retrieve my details' found at the top right hand corner of the page, next to the 'Sign out' box.
Click on the 'Retrieve my details' box and if the name 'Geccko' appears just change it back to 'Gecko' or any other name that you like. Just try it

We have had a lot of high winds recently. The leaves are now coming off the trees but it is still quite warm. My wife and I are going away for a few days to stay with an old friend of hers. The birds are starting to visit my table more frequently as the winter begins. Now that I have started to feed them it is important to keep it up.
