Jabberwock, you're quoting Mervyn Peake!
I've been trying to find an excuse to slip him in somewhere. You got there before me!

I saw your post Daffodils by Wordsworth.Many moons ago when i was at school we all had to do a project in the easter hols.As i like painting i did a painting of the lakes and daffodils,then over the top,in my best caligraphy i wrote that poem,it took me ages.It was pretty good.I showed it to my parents,i was as pleased as punch with myself,then came the bombshell,''What is a clod?''Asked my all critical father,i had left out the U.That wretched poem is known as the 'clod'poem in our family.The picture still survives,it hangs in the toilet!

Just to remind you again sue, here's the 1807 version:
I wander'd lonely as a Cloud
That floats on high o'er Vales and Hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host of dancing Daffodils;
Along the Lake, beneath the Trees,
Ten thousand dancing in the breeze.

That reminds me of the time when I found out, in my late teens, that a particular hymn is not about the Lord of the Dance-settee.

Thanks for that. Looks interesting, though it'll probably be a week or so before I have a chance to read it.
By the way, your groan jokes thread provided me with a stack of material for this week's creative writing lesson on comic prose.
