Mint Tea

Today I am looking shifty. In case you concern yourself that I have become a whisperer myself, remember this fact: a recent memo suggested that to outwit the whisperers it was best to act as if one was a whisperer oneself. Whisperers are known for their shiftiness. They are also known for their deceitfulness, sloth and dubious tastes, but shiftiness remains their main visible characteristic. Thus, today I am shifty. My eyes dart around the Square and I talk from the side of my mouth when purchasing newspapers. I sit in the corner of restaurants, away from windows, ordering only mint tea. I have, as yet, heard no whispers. Still, we must remain vigilant.

I trust you have kept Kiev in your mind. Once I forgot to do so and found myself in Stockholm. That was a long winter.
The object is secure. It was moved on the --- of ------- to a safehouse in ------. A cold snap irritated the local hens and they have stubbornly refused to lay. My love of the fritata forced me to leave.
I heard their whispers while concealed in the shadows. Water in nearby puddles bubbled furiously and my eyes again turned blue. Another new passport photograph. I thought myself lost but a robust woman gave me safe passage through her kitchen and her bed, where I remain, for now. The pillows and quilts are delightful. Excellent stitching.
The Eastern passage has opened again I hear but the cold aggravates my condition. Perhaps I shall remain under quilt.
Avoid the whisperers, be discreet, the Claret is excellent.
