Several days ago you asked a question, and I can't recall which thread it was on. You'd asked what had happened to the animals in the New Orleans zoo. I had expected the worst, since many animals in shelters had drowned. But we just saw a bit on the news about the zoo, and only three animals perished- two otters and a raccoon. Not to say that two otters and a raccoon less is a *good* thing, just that it could've been a lot worse. Thought you'd be happy to know that amid all the destruction and loss, at least there was some good news. And that all but three of the zoo residents were spared. smiley - smiley

Wonderful!!! I just remember the horror of what happened in Kuwait & had visions of...well; you can imagine; the animals who are captive & totally dependent on humans in this situationsmiley - wah

Bizarre that otters died, you would imagine they would be best equipped to cope; maybe they were old otters anyway?

smiley - tafor thinking of me!smiley - smooch

I know what kind of visions you had, I think. Last Friday night I had a terrible dream of animals in cages being flooded. It was really awful, the only time I've ever woken from a dream crying.

Of course I thought of you straight away! I know you worry as much as I do about the captive and helpless critters. Captive and helpless people, too. It's one of the things I like most about you. smiley - smooch

K said the same thing about the otters. Guess it depends on how much water engulfed their living quarters. But it could've been much worse.

There's an organization called Noah's Wish doing rescue work with animals down there right now. I'd chipped in a bit to help, and am pleased to hear that so many animals are being saved, treated, and relocated. A lot of people forget about the critters.

Just spotted this, now they have (we hope) rescued all the humans, they are definitely trying to sort the animals out. There is a number & website people can contact to get re-united with their pets, maybe you might like to pass that link around to all your friends in US, someone somewhere will know someone who is desperate to get their pet back & they only have 15 days to do so, then they get rehomed.

Will pass that link along, thanks!

Jusr read this, I'd been wondering:

"But at the Audubon Aquarium in Canal Street, one of the US's leading aquariums, there was worse news.

Although the institution was not badly hit by the waters, many aquatic animals perished because life support systems failed amid damage to the power grid.

Some were saved however - including a green sea turtle named Midas - and police officers reportedly stepped in to help feed the penguins."

I'd been to that aquarium several times, it was beautiful. I had wondered a few times how it had fared. They had some beautiful sting rays. smiley - cry
