Hello there. I've popped over here to respond to something you said on the gay thread, as it's moved on a lot since you said it and I don't want to hijack the thread.

'I don't believe that responding to nonsensical, badly researched, or just plain false postings constitutes "attacks".'

Well, I agree completely. I've never seen you be anything but polite and respectful to all researchers. It really didn't occur to me that you might think I was talking about you!smiley - erm It's only when people make *personal* attacks that it bothers me, and even then I tend not to say anything. But the Della-baiting has gone on for so long now that I'm fed up with it. I feel embarrassed to identify with the intellectuals who do it... I seem to be going off on one again. But, I repeat, I didn't mean you! (I'll shut up now.)

While I haven't had as bad a problem with it as some people, I have been the butt of what I feel are Della's "catty" remarks and somewhat patronizing remarks at something I spent quite some time working on. The "baiting" by others, as I see it, comes after having had like and worse encounters with her. She does plenty of baiting, herself, it should be said.

I try to keep a level head, but there have been a couple of recent remarks by her to some of my postings on another thread which have been particularly insulting. I don't respond well to people like Della who don't know what they are talking about and who resort to patronizing when they haven't got a good argument.

I hadn't seen her doing any baiting. But then, I haven't spoken with her much; I've just read her postings on various threads. Some months back, I followed the threads back to find out how all the fuss had started, and came to the conclusion that it's a two-sided story.

Some members of my family haven't had the benefit of academia to help them to structure an argument; some also have views which are coloured by religion. Even so, I think it's a good thing if they at least try to join in with debates. I like the fact that Della so often has views which oppose everyone else's. It provides contrast and forces us to think a little harder about our own ideas.

But, you know, I appreciate what Az said about her ability to give as good as she gets. I think things are just getting to me lately--I mean, in general. Roll on springtime, I say.smiley - chick

Patronising? What ever do you mean? Your assumption that I "don't know what I am talking about" is just weird. Blanket assumptions are never a good idea...
