Hi Mudhooks, just popping by to say thanks for all your good work on the police raid conversation. It's good to see someone sticking up for civil liberties.

And it saves me from having to do it. smiley - biggrin

Heh....

I find it interesting that people are so willing to support the police having such powers.... until it those powers are used against them.....

It's very worrying. On my blog, someone wrote a comment on my entry about terrorism which said something like 'I am willing to let the police have any powers if it might stop a terrorist incident'. I guess the attitude is widespread. It is frustrating that people can't see the problems with this viewpoint.

Arggghhhh.....

It's like talking to a very dense brick wall.... I'M naive?!!!???

Unfortunately, I know all too well what happens when certain people are treated differently because of assumptions based on biased attitudes.

I wouldn't have a job if it wasn't that, at one time in our history, priests and the clergy were seen as completely above reproach and Indians seen as liars and complainers.

Thats what happens when we place certain people in positions of complete and unquestioned authority.

It's very frustrating, but there's a chance that someone reading the conversation might change their mind because of your arguments, so it's worthwhile even if it feels like nothing you say has any effect.

You might find it interesting to read the comments on my blog entry:

I have to admit that I have taken a bit of a hiatus from HooToo.... Partly because of certain comments. I have also been assigned a special project and it is requiring a lot of my mental (and time) resources.

I haven't been back to the conversation since my last posting. Unfortunately, I allowed myself to get dragged into the "he said - she said" of the incident rather than sticking simply to the legal and social ramifications of the allowing of extra powers to police and the State.

I will have a really good read of the posting from your blog, at home. A skim of some of the responses (mind you, it was only the first couple) seemed a bit more intelligent that some that were on the thread.

I added your blog to my list of blogs on my blog....

I tend to avoid political stuff on that blog since I spend a lot of my workday with "tough stuff" and prefer to keep that "in the shop". I occasionally port some more thoughtful stuff on a personal blog that is "untraceable" because of my work and a little more political stuff on our Fellowship blog.

"Mudpuddle" is for just what I enjoy.

That conversation sort of died a bit actually.

Nice blog, good to see that you've got recipes on it. smiley - smiley Mine won't be lasting long, as I'm leaving the university at the end of the year. I'll have to find a new one.

You can't keep your blog?

Not without paying for it, and why bother when there are so many free ones out there.

Yes, I quite agree.

It's really a shame to have to lose all those great posts. Perhaps you can transfer them to your new service. A rather daunting task, though.

Hmm, good point. I shall enquire about that. It might be they could archive them for me, or quite possible someone has written a script to automate it.
