i spend a lot of time sat in a chair by the window. this window overlooks the perimeter hedge of my garden.
its about 10 ft tall and has a lot of wild birds(sparrows, blue tits, robins and some other types as well) who sit and rest during their days flight.
i decided to buy a bird seed bell to give them something to eat as the weather changes.
bad move
im now over run with birds. so as i was getting through these seed bells rather too quickly, i invested in a couple of bird feeders. one for nuts and one for bird seed.
now, im sure these birds must be sending messages to the wildlife in my area as im inundated with them and ive had to buy another feeder to cope with the masses. its quite nice to see the regulars who feed each day
but at the same time, the message has got to a couple of grey squirrels. they turn up every morning at 10.15am on the dot. im sure they must wear a watch. they have practically destroyed the one feeder and made the nuts fall onto the ground where they sit and eat them.
they are also so brave that they sit there and ignore the flash from my camera as i take pictures of evidence.
its quite an experience to sit and watch this happening

we get birds flitting about but they don't stay, prob coz of the cats... hubby put a feeder on one of the trees, but it's barely used, unless it's swingin' too much, don't know...
we get a lot of wood pidgeons too sal.... they make a funny noise.... rather like a cuckoo with hichups..... sort of cuckoo-huck... lol....
we too have a pond with a waterfall but the birds don't seem to bother with it..... the bloody dog does tho', has a crafty swig from the waterfall.....
saw a robin the other week too....

Hi Helen how lucky you are !!!!! I too have a fairly large garden and have bought every type of seed for YEARS,the birds around here will not touch it !!! I have no idea why !! One thing I can say,the mesh type seed holders make gorgeous nanging baskets. The seeds in mine actually rooted and grew. All I can think is we must have cordon bleu worms in the garden hahaha See you soon Love Pinky

Hi Helen
I too have a large garden, that backs onto an orchard. Lots of different types of birds come into the garden along with rabbits, which eat all my bulbs and dig up my lawn badgers which ate my fence!! to make a hole big enough to get get through, who then preceded to dig craters in my lawn and ate half my plants! ...I got pecked by a baby woodpecker, when rescuing it from a neighbours cat oh how i love wildlife....when its not destroying my garden or attacking me!

morning pinky
i was told to use the 'lard' from the frying pan after you had cooked the bacon.
i suppose that you could cut off the fat from the bacon and mix it in with the bird seed.
ive invested in some plastic vending cups and im going to have a go at making some. blue peter style..lol.
