The way the consultant is treating mum is sort of experimental. At the moment the antibiotics are keeping things at bay and sort of under control but she is still in pain and her blood pressure keeps going up and down.

It was strange today that they announced that her white blood cell count is "normal". This is strange because mum has, for some years now, had a raised white blood cell count.

The reasons why they don't want to operate is mainly because of her neck. She has restricted movement in the neck and they would struggle to tilt the neck back enough to administer a general anaesthetic

The antibiotics may still work. We just have to give them time. I am rather nervous at the moment but I've just had a phone call from Dad and he didn't seem nervous. In fact he was rather jovial.

Please bear in mind that mum had an operation not that long ago and she got through it so I'm quite sure mum can get through another operation if it is proven that this is needed. She's a strong old ox. *whispers* don't tell mum I said that!

There are three ways this can go.

1. The appendix ruptures and the need to operate.

2. They keep her on antibiotics but still need to operate.

3. The antibiotics work and she comes home and causes us all grief for worrying about her so much.

I'm voting for option 4. This involves option 3 but with a further clause of I run away and never visit her again because she will shout at me for worrying.

You can come and hide here. I've cleared the spare room for you, and ordered a new bed.

She might shout but she will love it really. We are all thinking of your Mum, but you and the family too. The waiting and worrying is hard, but I am sure she will be fine, and I guess they are prepared to move quickly if necessary.

We'll keep the 'strong old ox' in the dark for you .....

I am pretty sure mum will be fine, although I haven't been to see her in hospital since Sunday. I must go and see her *smacks own hand*

I think I might take you up on the offer of a spare bed for a few nights though. Perhaps August/September? I'd need to clarify dates at w*rk though first.

I'd be willing to put up with an ear bashing for worrying, so long as she gets better soon.

Also, I'd let you hide here, but there's only one spare bed and it's in the living room, which doesn't have locks on the door to keep me out.
