Hello Mark

This is a fantastic project you've got here. How did you and your team get where they are today?

Are there ever likely to be any vacancies at the BBC for which an amateur historian & family historian might be qualified, or do you only recruit trained historians?

Thanks very much, L Jackson.

Hello 'L'

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you - I got back from my holidays on Thursday and there is so much to catch up on!

In a nutshell, we have a team of editorial staff (such as I), and most of us have some background in history - many of us read it at University, for example. On the History site proper, we use academics and the like (some journalists/politicians etc) to write the feature articles. I'm afraid I don't know how it works in TV. So I'm not really much use to you I think, as I'm dedicated to the web, as others are dedictaed to telly and radio. I'm sure the BBC could not say 'under no circumstances would we use amateur historians', and I'm sure they must have from time to time in the past, but again, the answer is 'I don't know'!

Sorry, that's not much use, is it???

Best, Mark
