Changes

Our family spent nearly a year in eastern Canada due to my husband's work. It was meant to be six months and turned into a year. Today marks four months since our return. I realized today that it is already fading into the past despite many difficulties, most caused by working conditions, which I thought would take a long time to forget. On the other hand, it doesn't seem as though we have been back home for that long either. But of course we have all settled in and our lives are more or less back on track. Soon that year away will be just a long ago memory.

Sick kids

So I discovered that N, my three year old, has come down with a cold last night. He woke several times and I had to hold him with his head up. Stuffy noses don't make for good sleep. So I had minimal sleep last night. Lately that's been par for the course. I seem to always have one or both kids in bed and it's pretty crowded. My husband sleeps in another room due to his snoring and to get a decent night's sleep before waking very early each workday. I woke up feeling awful this morning and didn't revive until my shower was complete. It took a long time to work up the energy to depart from the bed though.

And so N spent most of the day in a rush playing hard and being cranky at the same time. If it hadn't been for his runny nose and nasty cough, I wouldn't have suspected he was that sick. He was like a windup toy that was wound too far. He did go to sleep earlier tonight, partly with assistance from paracetamol. He managed to scratch the inside of his mouth before bed and was very distraught for about five minutes. And now he is asleep, hopefully for the night since we have to be out of the house early tomorrow.

New here

I was just doing a web search for sushi when I happened upon this community. I recently tried sushi for the first time at our local mall with my kids. Usually when I have seen sushi, the packages are very expensive and have very little actual food. I finally had a taste when the food court had sushi on special. I really liked it and most importantly, my seven year old liked it too. He is kind of picky and prefers sausages and meat pies to healthier foods. But he has fallen in love with sushi and wants to learn to make it. So maybe we will try this once I have gathered the necessary materials.

I only just managed to get my three old to sleep a little while ago. He has a problem with going to sleep at bed time. I think he inherited this from me. I have always resisted sleep but I think I am becoming more sensible as I have grown older (or maybe due to the addition of children to my life). Otherwise, I truly regret it and become almost as impatient as my three year old. I think tonight he is upset because his newest buddy, Al Pine (aka Fisher Price Rescue Hero) had to go away for awhile due to a temper tantrum that was out of control. He is learning the very hard way that tantrums don't accomplish much. Eventually he settled down and became cuddly and slept peacefully.

I napped this afternoon so it's likely I will be awake much longer than I would like tonight. I have been swinging from needing to sleep very early to being wide awake in the night. I imagine I will spend some time watching a video of Michael Palin's Full Circle series tonight. I hadn't watched his travel programs before but ran across his series Around the World in 80 Days a few weeks ago. I missed the first episode but stuck with the rest and loved it. I found these videos at the library and checked out all three and started on them last night. Unfortunately I was sleepy and dozed off in the middle so will have to rewind a bit. I managed to get the book with this one and it's been a great companion so far. I really love travel so this just fuels my interest.
