I've seen rowers on the river in Bedford, they're quicker than they look on TV

I've rowed at Bedford a couple of times. I love that stretch of the river - going under the bridge is an excellent obstacle and one which drives the cox absolutely mad! You can get a very quick speed going in the boat if you've got a reasonably good technique. Ever felt the urge to sit in a fibreglass boat and slog your guts out?

I doubt it! smiley - smiley Rowing boats are pretty sturdy. Mind you, they did say the Titanic was unsinkable...

You're safe in anything other than a skull or double. I've only ever heard of an eight capsizing once, and that was really freak conditions. Go on, it's a laugh. Had a race last saturday and all the tourists come along to take pictures of the crews - felt like a celebrity (I'm so sad!)

Fair enough. I've just spotted the new bit to your nickname. When did you add Darwin? Don't vote for Charles though - vote for Erasmus Darwin!

Hi Dr Nick!

Erasmus Darwin was Charles' granddad. He was the first to mention the concept of evolution, Charles gets the credit coz he did all the practical research and proved it. Erasmus was also a really big guy (he had to have a semi-circle cut out of his table so he could sit at it) and wrote crazy poems on biology and stuff. One of my lecturers mentioned him once giving his dates as 1710ish - 1802 and then read us a poem that Erasmus had wrote in, according to him, 1803. Spot the weirdness. Dead poets society in action?

Unfortunately yes. I'm escaping from them now. They're alright though - one I've just got to add some sources, the other I've got about 20mins to do and the other about two hours. Might actually be ahead at the mo...
