h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Hi and welcome to h2g2! My name is Amy and I'm an ACE (or assistant community editor) here at the Guide. We ACEs greet newcomers to the site, help them find their legs, and generally help to make this place friendly! We often do so at first by bombarding new researchers ("newbies") with lots and lots of links... so sorry, but it's for your own good.

I'm also a part of this volunteer scheme - the Gurus are the all-knowing researchers who simply know this site probably better than the back of their hand. Ask here (or any Guru for that matter) if you've got a more technically-oriented question.

A632431 - A place that's been around as long as h2g2 has can often create its own language. We have, and though it may not be very complex, we have a lot of our own idioms and phrases and vocabulary and so forth that often go right over the heads of new researchers - so go here to catch up quickly!

My favorite thing about h2g2 is the community - and we've got a club for every interest. A660304 is a great resource for almost every club and organization and pub and random bunch of people here. Check it out - or even check out my user page (U50994) for the kinds of things I'm into.

The key is to get involved and not be afraid to jump headlong into conversations. Everyone's extremly friendly, so be brave!
