>>Just curious as to how you got into the field..<<
Back when I was in college,(1970-72) if you worked concerts for the Student Activities Board you could cut class on event days and not be penalized. Then, after a number of different occurences which included not being drafted for service in Viet Nam, I wound up working for a band and eventually working for a sound and light company.Been doing it ever since.....

Don't I wish it still worked that way!!
I think I'm gonna fail at least one class this semester due to stage managing a show.. but eh.
What's your specialty?

I bounce all over the place.....but, I tend to gravitate toward electrics and follow spots. I've also driven fork lifts for many years.Don't just do one thing.....do lots of different things.

Lighting theory? Interesting concept. The closest I get to lighting theory is something along the lines of "I think I'd better make this work."

Basically that's the "uh, this is a Shakespeare" and let's learn how to hang and focus class.
I'm excited! :D
Yah, well, actually some of the "professionals" don't even do that.. Dark spots on the stage are baaaaad... *snicker*

Get really good at bounce focusing, then astound and amaze your professor....and, remember, a PROFESSIONAL performer will know to go to where the light is.

You mean those exist?
I actually had to have an ARGUMENT with an actor this last show over whether to pull back to stay in the light.. *rolls eyes* prima donnas.

Circuit breakers are wonderful devices.....they can trip when a performer leasts expects it and sometimes it can take the rest of the scene, or the act, or the whole performance to track down the problem.
I recall a certain famous entertainer saying something disparaging about Unions to the audience, and the circuit breakers to all of our follow spots tripped.

*giggle* I Love it! People alwayas SAY they are going to do those things, but it never happens...
I guess I'm still in the "good of the performance" stage of theatre.. Eventually I think apathy shall set in. :D I await this day eagerly.. Then the prima donnas shall PAY!
Of course, it was the circuit breakers.. Tricky buggers.
