Subbing entry - Mahler's Symphonic Premieres - 3rd Symphony

Hi David,
I notice that a couple of typos have crept into this entry:
1. In the 'Musical Form and Outline' paragraph, the special character a-umlaut in the 1st movement description has gone awry
2. In the description paragraph of the 4th movement, there is an unwanted full stop between 'Nietzsche's' and 'Midnight Song'
3. One of the dates doesn't conform to Guide convention - in the ninth paragraph of the Composition and Premiere section - should be Monday, 9 June, 1902

Sorry, I didn't spot those (and I didn't put them in, I promise). This Entry was a joy to Sub, as there was so little that needed doing - which is why I didn't come and bully you into checking it.
Luckily, I'm also a Curator, so if the Editors don't spot those before it goes live, I'll correct the problems once it hits the Front Page.
Sorry again.
David

Looks like someone spotted and fixed the umlaut. I'v fixed the others. Absolutely brilliant series of entries, which I shall digest fully at some point. I'm not very familiar with Mahler's music - what do you think would be the best entry point for someone with disgracefully 'light' tastes (Grieg, musical theatre, Rachmaninov etc.)?

Thanks for attending to those little blemishes.
Your question as to where to start with Mahler's music came up in another thread. What I said there was that the Fourth Symphony is the one that is commonly recommended as a break-in point, although I personally have yet to meet a Mahler fan who actually started by listening to the Fourth (A12219725).
It, and perhaps the First (A11690660), demand less involvement by the listener, at least initially. You can be passive and just let it happen to you.
Whichever you go for, invest 45 minutes or so and you just might find it a good return on your original outlay.
