Just spotted a typo..

"Within a few years homes where built on the north border,"

I think that should be were rather than where.

I need to correct some facts too, which I mis-understood when writing the entry. The figure of 192 causalities covers all those injured in the battle as well as the lives lost. There were actually 34 dead, making 158 injured. Could you make this clear in the paragraph about the battle, please? smiley - ta

Just checking: does "Black cobbles represent the 192 Worcester casualties of Gheluvelt and the grey cobbles, the 165 survivors" need adjusting as well? smiley - smiley

The numbers still stand, but perhaps it should be unharmed, or similar, rather than survivors.

"and the grey cobbles, the 165 who returned unharmed in body, if not mind." How does that sound? Because I never met an old soldier not living with horrendous memories of the brutality of war. My own father was one, he found a dying soldier and gave him his own supply of chocolate, then ran 2 miles to find a medic. Later he was injured himself, and carried the bullet in his lung for the rest of his life. He still said that leaving behind a dying comrade caused him more pain, to the end of his own lifesmiley - cry
