Hi Jordan,
I'm sub-editing your "John Updike" entry. I've a question. You say:
"That a man who rose into notoriety from the middle class could write so sadly of men attempting to follow his path perhaps best speaks of Updike's conception of the hollowness of the American dream."
Did you really mean "notoriety", the state of being famous or well known for some bad quality or deed, or did you just mean "fame"?

The moderators have hidden it now. So I won't be able to do anything further with it until the Eds re-instate it on Monday.

Oy. Probably DFW's penis with a thesaurus quote.
I can't take that out though. Getting to use that quote was my major motivation in writing the entry at all.

I've questioned the moderators' decision on this, but all I got back was a blank e-mail with nothing whatsoever in it. I've sent an e-mail off to Sam asking for his opinion. It may just sit there until the new h2g2 starts up.

Ah, it's back now. Sam has released it. But it wouldn't surprise me if the mods hid it again before I'm finished with it.
