I hesitate about this, because I don't have much to contribute in terms of actually being able to save the site, which I thought was the primary aim of h2g2c2. In terms of coding, advertising, finances, and most of the other business on the google groups site, I'd be useless.

If h2g2c2 is also focused on h2g2 after BBC, I'll happily lend my voice.

h2g2c2 is very much focused on the site after the BBC - that's why we wnat you on board.

Of course we want to save the site as our short term goal, but our medium-long term goal is to make it a great again, to make it furfil it's potential. We're forming a number of 'sub groups' focusing on different things, but one of the biggest sub-groups will on the future. I'm really keen on the things that you've posted on the Stockholm thread.. so..er e mail me.

I know you have reservations about selecting showcase entries for publicity purposes, but it does seem worth it to me. The problem is I need permission from the authors, which cuts out so many of our very best writers. But fortunately we do have a lot of good writers still on site.

So... which one or two of your entries do you consider your best?

And while I am at it, which entries by writers still around spring to mind as being among the best we have to offer.

I'm happy of course to give you permission to use my entries, but I'd prefer not to nominate my own. It seems a bit tacky to me.

As for my favorite other entries... It's a shame langsandy isn't around any more. I think you should include Dr Funderlik if you can, somehow. His Post Column "Dr Funderlik's Weekly Grunt" was a work of beauty.

I've just looked through the UG archives and some of the ones that stand out to me (with contactable authors)... A6637629 Blue Marbles are my Seas, A4575639 The Razor and the Curtain (I imagine we can dig up nadia's email, and that piece is worth it), A3892575 The Springtime of my Death (ditto), A2528101 Tomorrow is too long, A1117289 Seven Years On, A1905879 Welsh Sojourn and A2084294 Soul Mates. Sadly, that list leaves out so many great entries with elvised and probably uncontactable authors, but that's just part of the deal I suppose.

I've already posted my favorite EG entries on that thread... most of the entries of the month are pretty good, but not all are "great". A54096816 Grace Gifford's Wedding is particularly memorable to me.

I don't envy your task of picking the very best of the guide. You'll inevitably leave out so much great stuff - especially the elvis stuff.

It's a toughie, Pin's made his suggestions which has helped hugely, but it won't be "the best" because of the Elvis problem and because I'm trying to stick to one piece or two at most per aurhor - half of it could be by three people only. Dimitri's stuff is SO good dammit!

If you've got Nadia's email it would be incredibly helpful if you were to ask her permission. I've already asked Boots for Tomorrow is Too Long and shenot only said yes, she's offered to advise about PR which really will help.

I'll 'unlurk' for the sake of preserving greatness. Nadia was on just yesterday so perhaps simply leaving a message in her space would be the best way to contact her regarding permission to use her entries. Now it's back to the ether for me.

Spynxxx!!!!!!! - SO good to see you on line! I hope all is well with you. I never like to say "come back come back come back" because people have their own reasons for leaving, but you were a cool dude in the UnderGuide.
