Hi Jordan, I've just started sub-editing your great entry on the Cigar Store Indians and thought I'd get back to you right away.
Would you mind if I exchanged your wiki link to Joe Camel with the following link:

Hi there
I wouldn't mind at all, but those links can be very unstable on the NY Times website as they get archived and moved around. I guess it's still preferable to a wiki link. Whatever you think is best, really.

Oh, pity that. I quite liked the article, but if it's unstable, I'll leave it for now. Maybe I'll find something more stable.
Any chances that you'll supply a photo for the entry?

'fraid I don't have a Cigar Store Indian handy to take a snap of.
I looked around the internets for a while before I settled on the w*k* link, but for whatever reason there aren't many good websites out there concerning Joe Camel.

Ok, I've found two links to Joe Camel, they're here:
http://www.subliminalworld.org/kidstuff.htm
http://encarta.msn.com/media_701508191_761564279_-1_1/Joe_Camel_Campaign.html
If you want to keep the wiki link, I could add them as reference tags.
As far as I'm concerned, it's ready to go. I haven't done any major changes.
Pity there's no museum where you live, I still think a photo would be nice. (If only because I would love to see one. )
Tell me if I can press the button.

I don't have any desire to keep the wikipedia link, but neither of those are quite complete either Maybe I'll write a Joe Camel entry in the future and we can be rid of the wiki link.
There is a cigar store... somewhere around here that has an Indian in front. I know that much. Problem is, I don't know the name or it or where it is... and the Indian would probably be covered with snow.

And gone it is.
Oh, I hope you had a look at the edited version at A31655423 which I forgot to post you the link to earlier.
Don't forget to subscribe to it.
You have snow?
We haven't had any snow all winter. It's freezing cold, though.

There's a wonderful light, puffy snow on the ground right now - just an inch or two. But there's supposed to be more snow and ice tonight It's only going to get up above freezing one time this week. Snow's lovely to look at, but I generally tire of it around February, after I've had to shovel and walk through three months' of the stuff.

Remind me - where in the States do you live? Sounds like the west? I do like snow on fields and trees etc, but I don't miss having it on the roads.

The Great State of Ohio A2175824 It's in the Midwest. Not quite as cold as Michigan, not quite as warm as Kentucky. My northern Ohio brethren suffer the most during the winters though. A breeze off of Lake Erie can be bone-chilling.
The lucky thing is that we're used to the snow enough that a big snowfall doesn't shut everything down. We're prepared. If a freak snowfall hit South Carolina (which happened this year, though none of it stuck to the ground) everyone loses their heads and runs around like chickens with their heads cut off.

It's funny, where I grew up, we used to have quite a lot of snow during winters, so everybody was prepared for it, and all went ok. But nowadays, we don't get much snow anymore in many areas of Germany, and Frankfurt in particular is never quite prepared for snow.
The other day the boss and all my colleagues were late for work because of a bit of fog.
Give us some fog or light rain - and the traffic here comes nearly to a halt. It's incredible.

J Posted Feb 21, 2008
I've never really had to deal with fog much, but I don't think I'd like it. The one visit I've made to San Francisco, I went over the Golden Gate Bridge, just for the experience of it. Unfortunately, a deep fog made it like driving through a cloud, so I guess I'll have to try that again on a clear day next time I'm in California.
So have you moved, or have the Germans simply become less hardy?
Cigar Store Indians
aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Feb 21, 2008
I have moved - from the most northern federal state to the comparatively sunny, warm and mild Frankfurt.
I don't think I'd like to go back to the North Sea.

Oooh, the eyeballs are back
Somehow, in my mind's eye, I don't picture Germany as sunny, warm and mild. But then, I've never been. I really need to get out of North America one of these years...

aka Bel - A87832164 Posted Feb 21, 2008
Oh, we're talking about the south-west of Germany here. The north is rainy, windy, cold and rough.
Where would you like to go to?
For me as a European, it's hard to imagine that you can fly for several hours and never leave your country.
If I take a flight that takes more than an hour, I'm in a completely different country, with a different culture, language...

J Posted Feb 21, 2008
Yeah, that's bizarre. The only country I've been to other than my own is Mexico. I've not even been to Canada and it's right upstairs There's just so much to see and do in America, but it's all so spread apart. I've just been playing around in Google earth... the distance from me to San Francisco is the same distance from London to Egypt
If I was going to visit somewhere else, I'd like to see London. Years on this site has made me a rabid Anglophile in certain ways.

The google earth feature is quite noce, I hope they'll make it work properly soon. I spent hours with it when they installed it.
Here's the results from the first attempts: A21532466
London is great. I love going there for the meets.
I'm not sure I'd go to London all that often if it wasn't for the meets, though. England is a lovely country, but I've only ever been in the south.
One day, I'll make it to Devon, and to Yorkshire, at least.

Oh, and it just occurred to me that it's MS virtual earth what I'm talking about. Seems I'm not yet as awake as I should be.
