Hi Bedwyr

I saw your post in the conversation about 9/11 and the media, and drifted by here to see you.

You said: 'I am one of those that feel that even in myth there are not only threads of real history but lessons for life' which made me think that you might like to read the entry which I wrote on Diana Princess of Wales and the power of myth, which looks at the flip-side of that thought. This is of course a shameless plug! A749469

Anyway, enjoy h2g2. Have fun here, it is an interesting place full of interesting people.

All the best

Ben

Greetings Ben,,
I truely enjoyed your article. It is so well written that I could not help but remeber some of the women in ancient Irish and Welsh stories as I read. In particular I was reminded of Queen Gwenhwyvar in the Arthurian romances. To my mind a very sad and badly misunderstood woman. As with Diana, a Goddess in her own right. As many old Celtic stories as I can find I try and read on all levels. I would love to share some articles I have written about certian mythic symbols in Irish, Welsh and Arthurian myth.
Be well and Walk in Truth,,Bedwyr

Diana as Guinevere? I had not thought of that. But who was Lancelot? It is so hard to get any understanding of Guinevere because of the dynamic between the two men. But you are right, she is an archetype of a marriage that blew apart. I don't know the celtic versions of her story, as you can tell, only the versions based on Mallory.

There are many researchers here you may like. Alji ( U172782 ) and Kaz ( U182246 ) spring to mind, if you have not 'met' them already.

Hi Ben,

After a day of 9/11 saturation, It makes me long for the quiet mountian forests or the river swamps of my native home. Where the loudest voice is that of a katy-did or an old bull frog. If one is lucky they may hear a panther cry or see baby racoons walk up to them, much to their mothers dismay! Instead I am here at h2g2 where some sanity or better yet insanity reins.
In my comment about Diana reminding me of Guinevere,I not only see the marriage going bad. I also see her looking for love and after finding someone, she dies. In death the feelings of love from the people are expressed in ways we rarely see for anyone. I think much to everyone's surprize she was the heart of the people. She was the U.K.. In fact she was even bigger. I remeber my daughters crying and asking me if they could do something in some way.
As for Guinevere in Celtic myth, she too repersents the sovereignty of the land. As King Arthur's marriage to her is symbolic of his wedding the land as well as the woman.
As for Lancelot, there are those who say he is a version of "Lugh" king of the Irish Tuatha de Dannan. Like Lancelot he is skilled in all things. Lancelot is Arthur's best and most loyal knight. He is also Arthur's most trusted friend. Now I get weird,,(grin) Lancelot has been reared by a fairy woman. The land of the Fairy is where he grew up. In the abduction of Guinevere it is Lancelot who crosses the sword bridge to rescue his Queen. The Sword Bridge in many myths is the bridge into the land of the dead or to the Celt's, the Otherworld.
Who better to rescue her(a fairy queen) than the foster son of a fairy woman?
The triangle of Arthur, Guinevere and Lancelot is hard for us today to deal with. Even though he was badly hurt and against all the voices of his court, Arthur did not seek revenge on Lancelot. Lancelot is his friend and he loves him as well as loviing his Queen. Perhaps this is a lesson in how human spirit can deeply love more than one person. In different ways perhaps but deep love never the less. This is a lesson I personally have had to try and learn. Perhaps if we could live by these ideals, divorce rates would go down and acts of domestic violence would decrease.
What of Arthur? I look into the heavens to see him,,he sits in the lesser bear, like a King in the middle of his round table. Hey at one time the little bear was part of a much larger constellation we know as Draco. Is this where the name Arthur Pendragon or Arthur son of the Dragon came from?

Be Well,,Bedwyr
PS I have been working on a web site,,learning to write Html ect. if you are interested the link is http://anzwers.org/free/liafail/ not much there yet but that is where the major part of my computer time goes,,research and more research,,,I am not a writter but I am leanning.

I have been through some of the places on h2g2 but by no means have I covered it. I am about as lost as a Pagan in Church.
Almost at once I went to the ancient history site and saw some things that really excited me.
I look forward to meeting new people and asking a millon questions. If I can add or share something I will try to do so. Thanks for making me welcome and I look forward to talking to you once again.
Be Well Bedwyr
