Crimes commited by architects in Helsinki

Link above takes you to page showing some demolished buildings in Helsinki and what architects managed to create for replacement
. Unfortenately text is only in Finnish, but pictures show quite clearly before and after situations. Important side note is that all demolished buildings were in reasonable condition, so demolition was not only option.
Helsingin Sanomat (biggest daily in Finland) publishes one before/after set every week. National journalistic award was given for this series.

Yep, tomorrow, sixth of December will be Finland's 85th independence day, first without out own currency. Markka served us well for allmost 140 years.
It is that time of the year when we pay our respects to earlier generations and their work. Traditionally our independence celebrations have looked more like funerals, people in dark suites listening to speeches and "church" like music.
Why you migth ask? I don't know, maybe because gaining and maintaining independence hasn't been easy and large part of population still personally remembers losses of relatives and friends. But during recent years celebrations have got more festive, which is very nice thing. After all independence is something to be happy about. 
So no I'm off to buy bottle of extermely dry white wine, heat up sauna, have roll in snow, eat reindeer and salmon and concentrate on beeing as Finnish as possible.

First appearance on front page

So, two of my entries made it to front page and even on same day. Cross-country skiing and Kalakukko. I think I'll have some 
later on.
Also please read A863165 to learn about benefits of article free english. It really saves time and money and migth actually stop greenhouse-effect. AND wouldn't that be nice? As part of my campaign my personal space is now article free zone. All articles you leave here will be used as evidence against you when campaign has reached final victory.
