It's quite complicated, so pour yourself a cup of tea and sit comfortably.
In an episode of 'The young Ones' TV series there was an incidental character called Footoomsh (I think that's how you spell it) and he was a demon, torturing souls down in hell. Now one day he and another demon, called Orgo, were torturing a man by playing Barry Manilow very loud at him through headphones (have they no mercy???). Anyway, apparently the rule is that if someone inadvertantly says the name of a demon three times, that demon will be summoned up to Earth to collect souls to take back with him.
So Orgo turns to Footoomsh and says "Oi Footoomsh, any news about your promotion?" and Footoomsh replies "I've only got another three souls to collect and I'm eligable for a nice cushy job in admin. Mind you, it's taken me three millenia to get this far, no-one ever summons you up to Earth with a name like Footoomsh, why couldn't I be called William?"
Anyway, Rick (Rick Mayall) inadvertantly says Footoomsh three times (as anyone would) and Footoomsh appears and starts trying to kill them all. It's riotously funny!!!

Aha! It all becomes clear... I followed the link, interesting! (I just don't have the same taste for the surreal that you and Jimmy do.)
Did you know that 60% of males were called William in 1905?

"Did you know that 60% of males were called William in 1905?"
Surely it's what they were called the year they were born that matters?

Aye, laddie, that it is. In the Middle Ages, all men had one of five names. Richard, Henry, Edward, William and Thomas...All women were called Elisabeth, Sarah, Anne, Cecily and Margaret.

That's funny. I don't know why, but it's very funny.
So you could guess a person's name and there's a 20% chance that you'd be right. Cool!
Most of those names are still prevelant in royalty. Interesting.
