Would that be at all similar to the fox furs little old ladies used to wear around their necks, on buses, to scare the children when I was one?

I suppose, on reflection, those fox furs could be tantamount to a symbolic pamphlet extolling the virtues of privelege and shameless excess. Our grandparents' generation, perhaps subconsciously, wore their ideology around their necks.

An excellent point! One I had never considered... I remember that they were all very imperious, these old ladies, and they seemed to have - what's that line from 'Mr Bojangles' - the 'eyes of age'? Their dead animals quite frightened me...
