One dimention...
Posted Sep 5, 2002
Hiya,
Had a reminder of just how one-dimentional the Internet is.I always try to make very clear what I mean while writing an E' or while talking to someone through the computer; the medium being what it is doesn't take kindly to half-said sentences or interpretations of words. One must be as accurate as possible, or when something is said in fun or with a smile, put a "smilly" in to make sure that the person on the receiving end knows that the remark was made in fun. A word can be both a tool and a weapon and it is a pity if a conversation gets ended because one of the two partners got the wrong impression about something that was said. This can sometimes be even harder than translating a texts with betraying the real meaning behind a word or a sentence, an article or a posting. let us all take care when we go on line and join into a convo or reply to an article...

People...

In order to get people to respond, talk about a certain subject, I find that it is necessary to get out there, to get around in the site and leave your mark here and there...that is not always received in a positiv way, it seems.
It is strange that even a nice and well-meant reply to a subject can get peoples hackles up so much. I am wondering if it is because of my style when I reply, or is it merely because I feel very strongly about the topics I reply to? I would like to hear what others think? Anyone?

Missing the target...
Posted Aug 24, 2002
Although I still am very interested in the conversation on "God, fact ot fiction", I feel it is time for me to move on. Not because i can't contribute to the discussion anymore, but because I believe all the different angles have been covered, multiple times. people start to repeat themselves, start to make entries which have very little to do with the initial question...as said before: I understand where a conversation may have several side-lines going on, but too many are too many.Besides, quite a few of the side-lines are subjects within their own right and deserve better than to be hidden within a topic which not that many people are replying to anyway. What is also strange is that one will get answers, replies to the points which can be taken apart and disected, the points however which can not, remain undiscussed. No one is completely right, no one is ever completely wrong..I wish it were that simple.

I am wondering...

Phew,...discussion on "God fact or fiction" in the conversations-section is getting rather complex and as with any "good" discussion one topic after another appears on the sidelines. We had heavy words like: the "Holocaust" and "genetic manipulation"come up. Not that I don't like a convesation or discussion to move on from one topic to the next, but I myself feel that those topics are worthy of their own seperate conversation.Maybe I just should be bold enough (after all I am only a newcomer here ) and start one ...besides, it doesn't seem to matter howmany times I already have made it clear that I am not a Christian, as soon as some one writes the word "god" people assume the topic to be Christianity.
I know I make it sound now as if I am anti-Christian...and I am not, as a matter of fact I admire everyone who is willing and able to walk their path...the right way; i.e. following the dogma and/or doctrine of their religion/filosophy or (as I have come to learn from a more scientific mind here on h2g2) the dogma of science, where there doesn't seem to be any room for myth and legend...pity, my friend; you miss out on a lot of beautiful things.
Anyway, I am seriously considering to start a convo on the topic of gen-maipulation and where it would/could/will lead us. Hope to see you there.

After the tour....
Posted Aug 20, 2002
Ok, so it took me two days to take the tour and see what the site has to offer and where one can jump in...I had so much fun, and at times wanted to read through all the entries in the conversations-section. I am amazed about the number of Pagans in here...joined in a conversation about the fact or fiction of God and read through all the entries made before mine, quite a number of people discussing this subject are not Christian, and are not afraid to say so...what a change from the boards I usually visit. Anyway, I am still figuering out how everything here works, but I can already see that i will have a lot of fun. Hopefully I meet some folks I can talk to...will be back tomorrow, until then,
