Zoomer:

I have no wish to become entangled again in that d&*% WWW Americans thread, but I notice that Analiese has made a silly "shard of glass" statement about our precious cultural mosaic. Perhaps it would be worthwile pointing out to her that the recent election of the new Grand Chief of the Assembly of First Nations ("the national representative organization of the First Nations in Canada" from http://www.afn.ca/) merited live coverage on Canada's national television and radio networks. One wonders if any aboriginal group in the U. S. would receive the same coverage, except perhaps on FBI-TV.

Thank you for that, but she is rooted firmly in her martyr beliefs. I have met a few people like her, and only a long tour of the rest of the world would change her self-flagellation as far as I am concerned. If she wasn't female and it wasn't non-PC I would be happy to give (him) a good, sharp kick up the arse and a set of binoculars. But I fear it is too late.

And so it goes.

Actually, when I worked on the Atlanta Olympics when the vice-president was going to show up, there was a kind of FBI-TV. They had a huge mobile (OB to you) truck that had dozens of large monitors. There were agents panning the crowd and supposedly there were experts in the truck who had photographic memories. Kind of a cheap version of the computer face recognition. I don't know how effective it was but they had good gear!
