Useless Frivolity

Today I wish to inform you all of some wonderful sites which might otherwise go unnoticed, but which through lots of time on the hands and little to do with it have found their meandering way into a folder in my Favorites entitled "Useless Frivolity", and thence to you.
First I wish to report the sad news that the "Virtual Cow Tipping" site that is mentioned in several other places in the Guide no longer exists for some arcane reason. A moment of silence, please.
However, the "Virtual Bubble Wrap" site (www.urban75.com/Mag/bubble.html) still awaits your clicking pleasure. The bubbles make, of course, a satisfying pop sound when you roll the mouse over them, and they also regenerate in moments, which is fun to watch.
Another favorite of mine is www.rathergood.com, the Lair of the Crab of Ineffable Wisdom, home of many wildly amusing animated shorts, and the home of the delightful Blode, an excellent and endearingly British animated figure.
While on the subject of endearingly British sites, I must make mention of nicecupofteaandasitdown.com, a site devoted entirely to the discussion, news and reviewing of biscuits of all kinds, and also their accompaniment (tea). Though I now know more than I ever hoped or desired to know about British and Australian biscuits, the style of writing is clever and makes even this dry subject (pun intended) palatable.
The last site in my roll call is that of Weebl and Bob (www.weebl.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/b3ta/pie.html), two egg-shaped, mush-mouthed animated purveyors of rather juvenile humor. The two don't do a whole lot, and require a certain select sense of humor to be amusing, but they are certainly worth a glance.
Oh, I lied--there is one more site I wish to share, this possibly the crowning jewel in my Crown of Frivolousness: mycathatesyou.com. Not for the sqeamish, My Cat Hates You exposes the secret plots of cats around the world to overthrow the human species dominance and brutally destroy all who oppose them. Hundreds of pictures of cats displaying their burning inner hatred of humankind are the site's main attraction, accompanied by clever captions written by the site's overlord, Jim. They have been seen in many publications and have recieved several awards around the world, but I recommend that those who think this type of thing promotes violence against felines stay away, as Jim has no patience for such allegations and will say so in no uncertain and no polite terms.
Thus ends my current listing of "Useless Frivolity". Enjoy, and stay tuned for more!

Royksopp

Here, in my first-ever journal entry (trumpet fanfares) I wish to make mention of a sadly-neglected and wonderful band: Royksopp. They are a very obscure techno/house/dance band from Norway, and have been making beautiful music for nearly seven years, even hampered by a pair of virtually unpronouncable names, Svein Berge and Torbjorn Brundtland.
I myself am possessed of only one Royksopp album, to my great chagrin, and it is "Melody AM", considered by many to be the defining piece of their career. I highly recommend it to all. Reminds me a bit of Massive Attack at times, and also at times of Portishead, but Royksopp stands squarely on their own four feet.
