There are very different conversations going on:
serious discussing on different topics,
fun and games,
small talk in cafés and pubs,
role games,
etc.

One good place to start is Ask h2g2. There is always something on every interest.

Pictures and other stuff in the entries can be sorted out by testing pages, that's what I usually do. My U-pge for example looks like this:

You will find the test page if you replace A in the IP with TEST.

And as about The Guide - there is a button on every page saying Contribute. There are loads of all kind of useful information there.
