Alexander the Great

I heard on NPR yesterday that there are several screenplays about the life of Alexander the Great working their way through Hollywood. Since it is now topical, I'd like to post the poem I wrote, oh, seven years ago.
A Poem About Alexander the Great *
Great Alexander, in his prime,
Thought he was running out of time.
So far his life had been quite stale;
His hair was thin, his face was pale,
His wife was bored, his dog had fleas.
Well, so much for his time at ease.
He bought a horse, and then a boat,
Then, putting on his winter coat,
He said good-bye to all he'd known
And brushed his hair to look wind-blown.
The next few years were never finer,
He breezed through Greece and Asia Minor.
But Alexander, though Great indeed,
Had no originality.
Thus Alexandria became
Each unsuspecting town's new name.
