The Long dark teatime of the soul
Posted Nov 21, 2002
Douglas Adams was right about the long dark teatime of the soul, but for me it isn't on a sunday afternoon when all the papers are read and there is nothing to do, or as PG Whodehouse says, when nature lets out it's belt and nrelaxes. For me the long dark teatime of the soul is hwne your stuck in front of a co mputer screen, taking the levels of procrastinastion to a higher form of art, when you are bored and really don't want to study, the effect is even worse when listening to Led Zepplin's 8 minute version of kashmir.
When i enter the teatime of the soul, my metabolisml drops to hell, i feel sleepy, bone tired and deeply, deeply apathetic to life the universe and everything. I also encounter this experience at work, so god help you if you stroll into mcdonalds restaraunt number 867, cause i will appear deeply disinterested, and probably will be harbouring thoughts of how much pain i can cause you by sticking various parts of your human anatomy in the chip fryer.
But something wonderful does occur, it motivatres me to read the papers and a silent rage comes over me when reading about how fair the world seems to be when it isn't paying any attention to me, i also log on to H2G2, find some jokes and i feel much better. The long dark teatime of the soul is good for something, it reminds me of who i am, that hormones ring true, and reminds to not let the Bastards grind me down, if it didn't i might not be normal and/or sane.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
