I agree with a few, Se7en and Superman in particular. But where's Alien? Bullitt? Monty Python & The Holy Grail?
Worst of all, no singing dolphins!

I agree with six of them- "The Wild Bunch", "Dr Strangelove" (possibly my all-time favorite opening sequence), "The Hawks and the Sparrows", "Do The Right Thing" (though possibly just because I really dig Public Enemy), "Raging Bull" and "Lost Highway".
I don't recall the opening credits to "Alien" (hated it), and have never seen "Bullitt".
I thought just about everyone hated the signing dolphins. For the record, I thought they were cute.

Not sure if 2001 counts as opening credits, just the opening sequence. Top stuff, but then we could include Contact which is eye-streamingly ace for such an awful film.
I got palpitations when the title came through the bubbles on Hitch-hiker's (at the premiere), still do. The anticipation was glorious. Plus, since I was in row 2, I can say that on a quantum level I was one of the first 50 or so to see it (after the critics).

Ah...but it's the minimalism. Just the plain title, in Kubrick's favourite font, univers bold.

*tangent alert*
I like the little piece of trivia that the opening credits of the first Star Trek movie cost more to make than the full cost of Airplane! and Friday the 13th added together.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
