You sound so sad! I just dropped in to say "Hi!" as I don't think we have spoken before. I visited Moscow once, had a good time, but wouldn't want to stay there for any real time. How long have you been out there? What do you find to do with yourself in the evenings?

oh, my... i think it's time to change my page thingee. i didnt want to make people feel sorry for me! and a lot has changed int eh year since i wrote that... i'm still in moscow, still struggling with certain aspects of life here, but on the whole loving life!
yesterday evening was particularly interesting.... i went with a bunch of friends to an open air techno festival. but i dont like techno, and was nervous about terrorism (i know that sounds ridiculous, but we've had a spate of bombings lately), so i was intrigued when i heard about the party for Mayakovsky's birthday. (mayakovsky was a dissident soviet writer, if you're not familiar). a bunch of us went to the mayakovsky museum because there was a rumor there would be free booze. well, there wasnt, but we were treated to an inter-active, avante-gard play in honor of the big M's b'day. an hour of bout 60 spectators being chased and herded around a multi-storey museum by three maniacs, one of them waving a leg bone and whispering confessions into our ears, another with a very fine operatic baritone singing soviet love songs.... then we all went outside in front of the stateu of mayakovsky and sang happy birthday...
life in moscow is not easy - it takes a LOT of adjustment and compromise and patience, etc - but it is NEVER boring!!!
since i have nothing to do at work today, i think i will take this oppotunity to update my page so no one else thinks i'm sad.
