On the subtle connection between food and love
Posted Jun 12, 2002
I was talking to my co-worker yesterday about one particular facet of the food-love relationship. Never mind the food-sex connection; what I've found out, as a person who likes to cook for her significant others is that the way they react to my cooking is indicative of how they feel about me.
Cooking for my partner is my way of showing my love for him. When I'm in love, food becomes a metaphor. I go shopping for nice, healthy food and try never to replicate recipes, if possible. Everything, from the shopping to the preparation to the cooking, is part of the ritual. So is the response: unprompted comments mean appreciation of the love as well of the food. Silence equals indifference.
Towards the end of our relationship, my long-term boyfriend started refusing food. It wasn't that he didn't like it - he said he didn't feel like eating it, that was all. He demanded smaller portions, and often didn't eat at all, leaving me alone at the table. In a way that was also very telling, he was annoyed when I asked him what he wanted to have for dinner. I was asking for an indication on how to please him; he was saying that he didn't care either way.
Refuse my food, reject my love.

Getting the hang of it
Posted Jun 10, 2002
... Just when I thought I'd found something interesting that hadn't been covered yet, turns out it HAS been. Oh well...
My galaxy is pulsating.
Just so you know, there used to be a lot of people sharing my space, but quite recently a few of them have chosen to leave. (Hence my experience in breakups). I'm a bit lonely, but having been in considerable pain recently, I'd say that being "a bit lonely" is an improvement. I've started going out more, ando although romantic attachments are still not an option (still heartbroken), I'm longing for new projects and new things. Which is where contributing to H2g2 comes in.
I work for an Internet magazine that is called www.trieste.com. It's an Italian Web site on Trieste, the town where I live, which is sort of the reason why I'm not writing about my hometown.
My first novel was published in November last year, it's called "Deadsexy" after the 1995 Scarce album, it sold OK although I haven't become a famous novelist yet, I hope that can be fixed with my next book... which I hope to finish as soon as the ennui is gone.
Soon, I hope.

My first Guide Entry
Posted Jun 7, 2002
I have just submitted my first Guide Entry. It's called On how to break up. I thought an article on breaking up was missing from the Life section, so I wrote one on the logistics and etiquette of breaking up or being broken up with.
It's hard-earned wisdom, that.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
