It was nice to open my Guide today and see your message. Much appreciated. I gather there are many idiosyncracies of H2G2 which will show me for the new researcher that I am.

There are about as many idiosyncracies on H2G2 as there are rechearchers 
so don't worry about it. The main thing is that you enjoy your time spent on here.
Remember that there is bound to be a researcher who knows something about whatever you want to know - so just ask.
