"Oooohhh. Someone else has read the "Philosophical Investigations"!"
Well, I am reading the tractacus on and off at the moment. And reading a commentary on the PI by someone with the delightful name of P.M.S. Hacker (which sounds like some sort of eccentric genetic experimenter to me!).
I actually came up with the reasoning I alluded to all by my lonesome, albeit prompted by anhaga's posts about how can a thing not of this realm interact with it. I simply extrapolated from there. Well, not simply, it was really about 3 months of pretty heavy thinking, probably following on from the discussions you and I had with thingy the other year.
Currently I am trying to work out the implications, and trying to fully understand, what wittgenstein had to say about inner knowledge and how 'I know I am in pain' is a nonsense sentence (in the philosophical and strictly logical) sense, and am finding the idea that such statements aare in fact embodiments of the pain rather than commentary upon it in the same way that a scream or yelp of pain is an externalisation of such and not a commentary upon it.
Fascinating ideas.

Sorry I've taken a while to reply to this. I've been busy with a new job teaching bus drivers English.
I also came to the same conclusion as you and Anhaga mostly by my own reasoning. You've probably seen it before, but there's an unedited guide entry on my page called Boundaries that explains my thinking.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
