Just popping in to update with regard to the return to work (for those who aren't on facebook, which is the only other venue I've managed so far). Bearing in mind that it's a contract-to-hire and they've contracted one more person than (at this point) they anticipate being able to hire permanently...

So far, so good. The workload doesn't seem unmanageable- the major difference in workflow between the new and the old jobs is that at the new place, it seems more consistent, overall, rather than having nothing at all to do one day and more than I can handle the next (or everything all at the end of the day). It's also all automated instead of manual entry, which seems a lot less tedious.

One really positive aspect is that it is so very QUIET there. I was frequently distracted to the point of tension headaches and tears at the old place, because the person in the office just north of me and the people to the south used to shout back and forth to each other instead of e-mailing or calling, or walking over. And would you believe that at least two former officemates had another co-worker email a former co-worker (who left before I did) asking her to contact me and ask my why I de-friended them on facebook? Um, because (1) the only thing we had in common was work, which is no longer the case, and (2) you're backstabbing bitches who started gossiping about my leaving before I even knew I was? Grow up already.

Anyway... the first couple of days went quite nicely, mostly orientation and training (which will continue for at least a few more days, I'd imagine), but everyone has been really nice, the office is just a block away from where I was before, and I'm adjusting well to working normal office hours again and getting up around the time I used to leave the house.

Thanks to all of you for the moral support and wishes while I hunted down a new position. With luck, I may well stay with this one.

Thanks! It's in the healthcare industry, and patient privacy regulations might mean I won't be able to access hootoo, personal email, etc, from the office. I'm not sure. At least while I am under contract, though, I plan to keep busy with actual work and no play. smiley - winkeye So for the time being at least, I'll be limited to checking in at weekends or the occasional evening while dinner is cooking. I will be keeping up with everyone as best I can for now though.

Thanks for the smiley - goodluck wishes. You all have been a big help!

Well, what can I say? Today I took a long walk along an otherwise empty beach and it counted as "work", because I took a few photos of moths and orchids while I was down there!

Sounds heavenly. I'd enjoy that kind of "work" myself, if it weren't so unbearably hot and humid here for half the year. smiley - winkeye

I would love to see some moth and orchid photos, though, if you plan on sharing them at some point. Especially orchids- love 'em!!

Survived my first full week at the new gig. They're doing a major system upgrade this weekend, so the last few days have been somewhat idle time. Starting next week, I'll have an entity assigned me (sharing it with someone who already has it) so I can start getting the hang of working in production as opposed to test mode. Spent this morning learning quickly how to process debit memos and negative vouchers, so now I've learned everything and need only remember the mechanics of the system, and which reports to run and when. I should be all settled in time for month end. smiley - yikes
