True, DQ, but I've got the wrong clothing for the weather.

Had to buy a second pair of socks in town because I discovered that while my boots are lined, they didn't bother to insulate the sole at all smiley - groan But the Christmas market was good anyway.

And now, warm Ovaltine with amaretto.

Hope the cake turns out well, PC! smiley - ok

It stuck to the pan, and split in half, so I couldn't cut it into layers. So I just piled all the icing on and then put all the cherry filling on top. And I accidentally used twice as much kirsch as the recipe called for. smiley - laugh It tasted good, but I thought the cherry filling was a bit too thick and I'll use less arrowroot powder next time.

What a glorious chocolate cake, though. smiley - drool

Now I'm making soup and a second loaf of bread.

Hah! I finally found my missing glove. The ones I was wearing instead today just didn't cut it.

I looked through my entire wardrobe, under the bed, in all the drawers under the coatrack in the hall, and that right glove was just gone.

But I just remembered that the cat constantly rummages in the lower drawer of my wardrobe, where I keep the scarves and hats and things - he pulls it open, then builds a little nest in there. And sure enough, when I got a torch and looked *behind* the drawer, there was the glove, and a hat I'd been missing, too...

Of course, I then had to find a screwdriver to dismantle part of the wardrobe so I could get at them, but at least I won't have cold hands tomorrow.

Good thing, too, we're down to -16° already!

It's around minus 8°C here; the damn range is refusing to light, t(here's sod all solar & no wind; it's now snowing; so hopefully it will warm up a bit.smiley - brr

It's a problem getting the wood dry if the range isn't working.

P is a warm-blooded creature, wanders around in ice in underwear, but i NEED heat....so we have to compromise!

Even the smiley - catsmiley - catsmiley - dogwere shivering yester'day & according to Doc, i needed to be taken to hospital to smiley - yikes have my blood removed , re-heated & pumped back in!!!

Chicago sounds warm by comparison.

Yeep! Stay warm, Terri! smiley - hug That sounds scary. Try scrap candle wax mixed with sawdust or scraps of paper and poured into cardboard egg trays - you can use a few egg cups at a time as a firestarter, and they can usually deal even with damp wood.

Last year, I was still living in an unheatable flat (literally in the back room, as good as in the front room, because it was uninsulated with four metre ceilings.) The bedroom had single-paned glass (though I did build wooden frames with plastic to put across them when it was cold) and walls a single brick thick. It got down to about 5° at night in the winter smiley - brr I only slept there, everything else happened in the front room and the kitchen, which were a toasty 15° smiley - laugh
