h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

OK, I've been working on this silly report (revenues, capital expenditures, payroll, depreciation, etc) for the economic census for three and a half months now. It's killing me. But it's also keeping me from performing some of my normal, but lower priority, functions. I've been stressing a bit these last few weeks.

I'm two weeks behind getting the 2007 files I'm responsible for ready for offsite storage, and my boss has actually started mentioning how sick he is of looking at them (so am I!). I haven't audited the corporate credit card statements for February or March yet. And various other crap has been piling up on my desk- I've had to set up rolling baskets for pending items to stow *underneath* my desk.

This morning, I got the wonderful news that there's a good chance- in fact it's most likely- that I'll be getting an intern for the summer beginning the first or second week of May.

Hurrah!

Probably not- she won't be working with those docs (those are confidential). It'll be a huge help, though, with getting me caught up.

Of course, so would not farting around on hootoo, but we all know *that's* not a feasible option.

I've just met a deadline with two days to spare, by finishing the introduction to a report (always write the introduction last! How do you know what you're going to say until you've said it?) and sending it in about two minutes ago.

An underling is a lovely thing to have. Or so I'm told. I still don't have mine yet, but one day...

I spoke to soon. I hadn't put all the covers, signature page, distribution list...etc. on my report. Due to my new department's bizarre templates it was all more difficult than it should have been. Done now, though.

This intern will not be here for any nefarious purposes, so can the cigar jokes, kids! She's just here for the summer for credit for school and to help with various filing and spread sheet projects. And preparing my 200+ file boxes for storage.

Yay an intern...she'll be well looked after by yourself too I'm sure!
