Hi hi, Psychocandy.
About a year back or so, you asked for advice about compiling a playlist (I think you wanted songs with a girl's name in the title? Or was it cover songs, only?). That, actually, was a pretty fun exercise, wanna do it again?

Actually, I don't even really dare ask, but you said you would try to give the final playlist you came up with to the contributors of that particular conversation. Erm, please?

Anyways, greetings from Germany,
Yelbakk

Oh, for goodness sake!! smiley - biggrin

In truth, I think I burned it all to a CD and if I dig it out, I should be able to get the track listing for you. It might not happen today, though...

And yes, it was a fun exercise, and I'd love to do it again, any theme.

(We also did one for cover songs only, but I'd never be able to get a listing for that, because it was deejayed tag-team.)

A warm hello to you, too! Thanks so much for saying hi. Which them shall we use next for our playlist? I quit deejaying, but my better half still does once a month.

Pity you quit the DJ job. I hope you did it because you found something you like way better?

Anyways, part of the fun of the exercise was that it was for real. I mean, there are tons of conversations here that deal with music (Most rocking song, Worst song ever, etc.). Your request was really aimed at getting some definite result. I liked that. But we could just pretend, couldn't we, that we are compiling songs for your better half, after all smiley - winkeye

There are millions of possible themes, though.
-Instrumentals by artists who usually use lyrics (e.g. Orion by Metallica)
-One-hit wonders (e.g. Inside by Stiltskin)
-Weird cooperations (e.g. Where the Wild Roses Grow by Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue)
-Songs about personal loss (e.g. Tell Laura I Love Her by Ray Peterson)
-Songs with a TV reference (erm, there must be a lot)
-Songs with a radio reference (e.g. Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles)
-Songs with a geographical Name (e.g. Get to France by Mike Oldfield)
-Songs with Biblical quotes...

How are the US these days?
Y.

PS. I just now noticed you changed your name... is that an indication of your new carreer? If so, let me assure you that all the songs on my computer were either legally downloaded or copied off CDs I personally own!!! smiley - smiley

The deejay thing was something I did once a month, as a favor to a friend, and I wasn't paid in any way for it. I quit doing it because someone new had expressed an interest in doing it and it was becoming more work than fun.

The "name change" is my Halloween anagram. No worries!!

Yeah, I found out right after posting, actually. Cf: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/F19585?thread=1222400. Does this mean I should go by the name of Jasin Lyan Bekk for a while? Or am I spared the effort of finding an anagram to my name, seeing as Yelbakk Sinjan *is*, as a matter of fact, an anagram of my RL name? Anyway, do YOU know how all this anagramming started? 'Cause I still don't... Well then, are you up to posting another playlist challange ;-)? (Or should this say, "are you game to/for/about..." I get confused with all those English expressions - which kinda sucks, seeing as I have exams coming up in English...) And in order to safe this post from having any kind of order... what kind of DJ work did you do? As far as I remember, dancability was not a criterion. Was it for a *party where people stand around and talk* kind of club, or for exhibitions, or for radio or TV or internet broadcasting... Yelbakk Sinjan not aka Kyle J. Bankinas not aka Jasin Lyan Bekk (none of which is my RL name, of course)

Well, the deejaying I did when I posted for the playlists was when I was helping out at a friend's bar. It wasn't really a "club", just a neighborhood watering hole. Unfortunately, the neighborhood's getting trendier, which has attracted a lot of youngsters, along with the aging hipsters. So it was quite fun to either compile playlists, or stick to the obscure. My better half still deejays there.

As for my past deejay experience, I did six years in radio, my last two years of high school and through college. I did on air work and also produced my own "shows". It was great fun. I didn't go into radio professionally, because about the time I finished college, they switched from analog to digital.

I'm still game for playlists, because I do compile CDs for my work commute (I'm now an administrative assistant in a real estate firm). It'd be fun!!

Hopefully, I will have time to hunt down that CD and track listing over the weekend. I'll post here then. Bear with me, my bf has a gig this Friday and it's gonna be a late night, but I'll squeeze in h2g2 time somewhere. smiley - winkeye

So, what kind of theme should we use for our first playlist? And do you want to start it here, on my Uspace, and invite others, or start it on "Ask"?

I can't find the original thread, and would like to copy and paste this there, as well... have you got a link, by any chance?
