Sober? I am ex-military, and been single twice, ... so sober is a relative state of being. But of course, stiff or three are always good.

Personally is a great start, plus nicotine, that's not to say that moving swiftly onto something more intoxicating isn't an option . Specially as it's Sunday, as far as I'm concerned cooking a roast lunch and it criminal not to open the wine if you can afford it. Yesterday as I did the strimming even under the imminent threat of wasp attack then perfectly entitled to sit with a cold beer and admire my work. Ok so don't have a large garden and strimming takes all of 5mins but it still looks better when its done.
Erm do you know why I've gone white, not literally, I'm kind of pink and a little bit brown but I'm sure that I painted the backdrop blue. And I can't find the smiley page, so sorry for the time being everyone is going to have to make their own way to the booze cupboard....

I whole-heartedly agree with the caffeine and nictotine as starters. THAT is the beginning of my own days, whether working or not. The rest, I've somehow lost thr thread ... I certainly know about trimming of hedges and shrubbery, full-blown trees, etc, owning a tidy little piece of turf.

Peanut Posted Jul 29, 2007
Mmm the rest, well generally just an example for the perfectly ligitmate reasons for drinking at lunchtime, which would be Sunday lunch or if you can be arsed to cook a roast lunch at any day of the week or stimming the garden, which clearly deservers beer. Birthdays, Christmas or other religious or cultural holidays that you raise kids on just so they are culturally and religiously aware are other ones, unless of course drinkng of alcohol is contradicted in that particular festival. Or driving obviously but generally we walk. Spring time is great for the sheer amount of new years that you can through. However I admit that was off topic, I always knew that 'dusting' was positively a dangerous thing which is why I rarely do it my house
Apart from that, my h2g2 has gone white whereas before it was always blue and I don't know why
Have you got a girt patch of land then, in which case you probably deserve more beer than me after strimming.

If you take a look at the very top bar of your internet browser, is it now showing 'alabaster' somewhere in the line? Instead of 'brunel' or 'goo' or what-ever other skins this h2g2 has? Or you may have somehow selected 'text-only mode', which is pretty boring. I think the option to switch from text-mode usually is somewhere on the top-left area of an h2g2 page.
But yes, we have a nice little 3-bedroom bungalow in this small'ish 'city', centered on a piece of land about 66 feet wide and about 110 feet from front to back. Keeping up the cutting of the grass, trying to keep a dozen or so flower beds alive, and occassional trimming of the trees that are here and there ... It's all good justification for the occassional icy-cold beer.

Thank you, seem to have gone blue again, tis my own fault for not spring cleaning no doubt. I'm sticking to my story of dealing with outside, not that I'm anyway scared of wasps,
Again off topic but hope all is good with you and yours Rev Nick

Oy, you have a bit of a wasp problem? Nasty little creatures, they are. This part of the country has more than it's share, and they are a serious bother in the autumn. Cool temps make them groggy, stupid and very mean.
But yep, all is pretty good over here in the Rev Household. If I may ask, generally where-abouts are you?
So good.
Peanut Posted Jul 30, 2007
I'm in Somerset, near Glastonbury. Offers and a groggy , one too many roast dinners I think, not feeling at my sharpest this morning. Having been chased by a swarm of wasps across several allotments I've been very wary of these lot. To my amazment they are very docile at the moment and are only really interested in bugs and stuff. From what I understand it will be when they get older and start craving sweet things that they will get all angsty. I can't find the nest site but don't think it is my garden. It's all been oddly fascinating and I've have taken a little advantage of moving some tragic looking pumpkin plants into the 'wasp zone' for a decent debugging. As its a lovely day 'spect they'll be more active so maybe I'll be able to pin down a location

So in the south-west then? Slowly, I am learning some of the geography of England. Which is perhaps a good thing, as I will be there in a very fes weeks.

Peanut Posted Jul 31, 2007
Yep that's right Have you got a game plan or are you going to make it up as you go along?

We have a generally laid-out time-table that includes a few key places in London and Chelmsford, several ideas for Cardiff, totally wide open to ideas for Dublin, and then pretty much just dinner, lots of drinks (with two lads) and rest in Manchester, before our return. All in 15 days ...
So good.
Peanut Posted Aug 1, 2007
Quite a tight schedule then. I take it you prefer your beers and whiskeys to our cider then, in which case you are forgiven for giving the South West a miss . Can't help you out with Dublin I'm afraid having not been and not knowing anyone who lives there but by reputation you're garenteed a good time.
Just out of interest why Chelmsford?

It all depends on the when, where and why of an occassion, but I enjoy beers, whiskeys, brandys and even a well-chilled cider on occassion. I am always open to try new stuff as well.
This trip is our gift to ourselves, for our 20th anniversary. And part of it is to meet some h2g2 friends. One is near Chelmsford, one lives in Cardiff, one just on the edge of Dublin, and a pair of lads are Mancs ... Hence the specific locales. There are also standing invitations in other parts of England, as well as Northern Ireland, Scotland, Germany, and about 6 other countries that span the globe. But we only have so much time available. And limited money too, of course.
So good.
Peanut Posted Aug 1, 2007
well chilled cider sounds nice, but I reckon all too soon the wasps will make a bee line for it, much as I like the countryside reckon it'll be biting all over. Not doing my bit for tourism here, but you're not coming anyway
But 20th aniversary,I'm going to try and source a decent cider somewhere near where you're going and altho it won't be on the house, in other words you will have to buy it yourself, I hope it's well chilled and will be sent with best intentions

I would look forward to looking for a unique beverage. Because I am old enough to know that a beverage does not need to be mortally intoxicating to be a pleasure. Thank you.
I gather from your Researcher number that you have been here for quite a time? Continuously, or just occassionally as some seem to be?

Peanut Posted Aug 1, 2007
Not sure how to answer at the moment, as I still can't find my patio, which started out a memorial to the LGM, haven't dusted the office and my larder is looking well dodgey.
Truthfully my space and where I get to it means something, for a time and space explaination, it's good enough for this site

We all have our quirks and our strengths. And occassional short-comings. There are some who would dearly love for me to leave 'here', permanently. But simply, I like the people I meet here far more than I am worried by their minor paranoia's.
