Serephina

Back in early june after being referred by myself and his headmistress Joshua saw someone for an assessment at the childrens mental health unit in croydon. Got the assesment summary in the post today (hes missed 2 return appointments through illness),and they say that while hes not they consider a risk to himself or others ,he does have some emotional difficulties (coping with anger, frustration, and his outburts of 'you dont love me im gona hurt myself when hes upset' etc) and would benefit from working with them and me..hes being referred to an art therapist hey say.
Although im pleased that somethings going to be done ,i do wonder why art therapy? he hates art for a start!

From what I gathered at my temping at a mental health unit, art therapy is great for getting all your emotions out by transforming your feelings into something creative. If you look through history, you'll see that all the great artists had mental health problems of some sort.

Hi Serephina, I'm glad something will be done to help Josh smiley - smiley
Art can be all sorts of things, not just painting, right ? Maybe he'll do some pottery or such, and who knows, he might even like it.

I haven't an artistic bone, I always hated the drawing/painting lessons, but I actually liked the pottery class, or working with wood. smiley - smiley

Hopefully they'll be able to find a creative outlet for his energy. Wish that we'd had such attention back when I was a kid...smiley - erm

Serephina,
you have been in a museum!
did you like everything you saw?
did you think the artists had an artistic bone?

in my opinion every one has artistic bone, but finding it is hard.
the only way to find it stimulating.

oh my sugestion of the day

Ah, it may look to the casual observer that I turned out fine, but underneath...smiley - sadface

I didn't have a particularly happy childhood. And it took a *long* while to get to where I am now.

Well, my childhood was crap - most of it, and it took me 43 years to get where I am now - so you're lucky, it took you only 40 years smiley - laugh

I could have had a better childhood and it also took me a long time to get myself sorted out.

I see a pattern forming here....!
