31st March 2002

Well just a quickie. Had the op and are now back at home.
Still have lots and lots of pain, and I'm very uncomfortable.
Don't want to write much now.

I've had better days than the last few. (like all of 'em)

Wednesday 20th March

Saw the surgeon yesterday - and went through it all again. Thats the third and last time before the op. I was much more relaxed this time, which was surprising. He also seemed more relaxed - perhaps just more familiar with me. Lee said later that it as probably because of him, that it normally takes a while for people to become at ease with him. I said I didn't think that was true, maybe its just men who feel intimidated by him?

My main concern was my sniffle - he didn't think thatwas a problem but asked if I was breathing alright. I am and I've still have 9 days for the sniffle to disappear.

I wanted him to go through it step by step and what exactly he was going to do. I didn't have to ask him, he just did. It was what I wanted. He set it all out, it was almost as if he knew the two times before that it wasn't quite so important, but that this time it was.

I asked about arnica. It had been recommended to me by a number of people - to take it for 2 weeks before to limit the bruising. I did start to take it at the begining of last week, but it seemed to give me headaches. I haven't taken any since. When I asked him he said that if anyone asks him what they can take beforehand - he said he always says arnica... he then said he doesn't believe it does anything, but he doesn't think it does any harm either. He said not to worry. I might give it another go. If it doesn't give me headaches it won't do me any harm.

I just forgot to ask him about my hair - its long and naturally curly and I did think it might get in the way. I was going ask about frizz eaze or something to straighten it a bit. Then he wouldn't have to fight the matting! In the end I forgot. I'll go and get some at the weekend to see it its any better than I remember.

The only surprise was that he said that my quote didn't include the price of some special cement that he would need. He wants it to fill some of the recess of my forehead. He couldn't be specific about the price, but said about £500. Cough. smiley - sadface ... why not pop down to B&Q? ... never mind in for a penny in for £7000 smiley - smiley well actually I'm trying to smile but its more of a grimace... well.. needs must.

That was it. I'll see him again next thursday eeek!

Only one thing to do - pay the bill. We sat with Maureen to pay her the money.

Paid all the fees except for the cement, which they will have to find out the exact price.

Lotsa £20 notes - I got a bankers draft for some of it, but my other account will only do BACS transfers so I had to take it out in chunks of £500 from the cash machine. Not too bad, but I bet maureen thought we were drug dealers or something smiley - winkeye

That done we set off home.. on leaving the clinic an immense flood of butterflies rushed though me and I felt a bit wobbly.... yikes.... this is for real....

oh well just need some new button up jimjams and a few drinking straws...

wish me luck...
