Master B does strange things...again
Mu Beta Started conversation Oct 31, 2003
After astounding renditions of "Johnny B Goode", "Mustang Sally" and "Sweet Child O' Mine", guess who is now the proud owner of a Stella Artois T-shirt as 'The St George, Swansea's best male karaoke singer'.
On the plus side, I met a wonderful lady who was friends with DNA before he became famous, and told me all about the origins of the name Slartibartfast.

I'm not sure whether to back away nervously, or to come forward and ask what *is* the origin of the name Slartibartfast.

I doubt this post will remain unmoderated for long, but DNA, after a night's drinking, wanted to come up with the least attractive name that anyone could have.
His original idea was 'Fartif**kballs', but as he was writing for the BBC at the time, he doubted that this would be acceptable, so he changed it letter by letter to become Slartibartfast.

yes i can see how the BBC might have had a teensy-tiny problem with a character with a name like that for a radio show.....

That story about the name Slartibartfast is true! Or at least as true as any of the stories that Douglas Adams used to tell. He mentions it in the "Complete Radio Scripts". He said that the intention was to come up with a name that was unsettling, ridiculous and vaguely rude, without actually being unbroadcastable.

Yes, I am particularly indebted to said moderator.
"That story about the name Slartibartfast is true!"
Sorry, Gnomon - I didn't realise I was in the habit of fabricating lies.

You can go trick or treating if you like. I've always said you were quite scary...

I'll be leaving quite early, btw, to miss the bad traffic on the M4. So you can expect me to be in when you get back from work.

The broomstick is ready and waiting in the hall.
Sounds sensible. Fine by me, just be careful not to trip over the blue that’s awaiting my attention.
If you could have a kettle hot at about 4:30 ish ......

BTW; don't know how easy would be to have that organized for the meet, guess we'd need to hire the equipment and stuff

Yeah, there must be a hundred and one mobile disco.karaoke people in the London area - don't know how much they charge Darn Sarf, though. My set-up used to work for £80-100 per night.
