Hiya hotguy, I'm VIP (very important Princess), and part off my job as an ACE (Assistant Community Editor) is to help welcome people to the wonderful world that is h2g2! So... hi.
h2g2 is a very friendly and welcoming place as a rule, so have a wander and join a conversation. Try typing a word in the Search bar and see where it takes you, that's a good start. There are some links on my page (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/U188069) which you may (or may not) find useful.
The way to make you're page more interesting, with colours and pictures and stuff is to write in GuideML. Although it may sound scary, it's fairly easy to pick up, and the GuideML Clinic (http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/A187229) is there to help you.
Smilies are one thing that foxed me for a while- double-click on any that you see and it will take you to the smiley page, like this one
