Hi there, Edam Cheese. I'm a special official volunteer on h2g2, called an ACE. ACEs welcome people to the site, and help them to settle in. So - welcome to h2g2! This is, IMHO, the best community site I have ever used - mainly because of the wonderful people who use and run the site. Whatever your specialist subjects, or if you just want a good chatter, there's somewhere for you on h2g2.
First, though, you'll need to grasp a few basics. The most important is at <./>Smiley</.>, an intro to the 150+ magnificent 
smileys (you might call them emoticons elsewhere), and also <./>Read</.> and <./>Talk</.> on the toolbar.
