Linkin Park... cool,
Rage... cooler,
Chilli Peppers
(not really nu-metal but who cares)
Sorry to barge in but as a bassist who lives for the groove, where people are talking about groove related issues I just seem to turn up... it's my duty..

Then you are indeed an individual of style and taste. and I am truly glad to make your acquaintance.
There is just so much excellent groove out there it's hard to know which way to turn.
I just took posession of my copy of Hybrid Theory at the same time I went the other end of the same scale with the new Groove Armada, so I guess 'In the end' I'll be 'Superstylin''
But enough about us, this is all about Jennie!
So Jennie, what do you think about us?....

I took up Bass guitar lessons a few years ago
but i wasn't any good
so my tutor told me to concentrate on something i'm good at!
So now i sing
Are you in band NFAF??
Jennie
Thanks for the help!
TF - The New Fast Automatic F-Reek - Now in DTS Posted Feb 13, 2002
I'm actually in a few at the moment and I loosely manage another one.
I play in the music team at my church, aswell as a live outreach band, a big band, and a couple of nights in a club. The band I manage are young guys who play - you're never going to believe this - stuff that sounds like a cross between RATM and L Park. They are naturally very talented, but a lot of work.
I sing aswell. But I think that your tutor may be wrong. Bass is not only the coolest instrument but a very therapeutic form of relaxation, and great exercise, because they're pretty heavy.
So by your comments I assuming that you are a pretty good singer.
Tell me about that...

I do a bit myself. Singing and playing guitar for solo stuff. Drums in a rock band. http://minusoneraver.tripod.com

I was really enjoying learning to play The Bass
but my tutor was adamant that i wasn't good enough
I think i might take it up again, cuz it was fun!
I absolutely love singing though
I started off in the school choir, and i did a few music productions
at a local theatre!
Now i sing in a band (we haven't done any gigs yet ) Still rehearsing
in the basement!
we're ok though, we play kinda Punk Rock, so i get to scream and shout a lot....which i love
Thanks for the help!

See Jennie, now we're really starting to get to know you.
Really thrashing it out hard is great fun. A couple of years ago I had a couple of jazz gigs on the go, which is great fun and very satisfying don't get me wrong, but I really needed some yang to go with the yin, so I formed an ensemble to cover some Chilli Peppers, Offspring, RATM, Primus, Faith no More etc. songs. Getting stuck into the music and having a shout was very therapeutic. Occasionally though, I would get someone turn up who had just been to one of the jazz gigs and it got a bit confusing for them, but all in all enormous amounts of fun.
But if you sing, DEFINITELY start playing the bass again, because the very coolest ladies in rock, and indeed punk, play bass.
I will leave you with an actual quote that came from a 15 year old Kirk Hammett who at the time was a long haired, coke bottle glasses wearing nerd. This was recounted to me by a classmate of his (bassist Les Claypool from Primus) as it was heard one day in an History class...
"Hey Les, I can play a G-chord man, I'm gonna make it, YEAH..."
true story.

You certainly keep yourself busy NFAF
I used to want to be a diva like Mariah Carey,
cuz i thought it would be cool to belt out all those
big tunes But i'm glad i stuck to rock music,
cuz it's sooo much fun
I will take up bass again, i've still got my guitar! But this time round
i think i'll teach myself...cuz i don't want anyone telling me
i'm not good enough gain
Do you play any other kind of music apart from Jazz and Rock?
Jennie
Thanks for the help!
TF - The New Fast Automatic F-Reek - Now in DTS Posted Feb 15, 2002
You got it, I'm as busy as a one legged man at a bottom kicking convention.
It's a real shame for Ms Carey. She used to be such a groover - she has an amazing voice - but now she's turned into this wierd-psycho-wannabe-love kitten, and her music now seems to be about showing off her newly purchased body parts in the videos. Very Sad...
There is much more integrity and cred in the rock world, check out Debbie Gibson, Shirley Manson, Tori Amos, Gwen, PJ, Ani, etc, all pretty different in terms of their style and level of commercial-ness but doing their own thing respectably.
Now you did ask what other styles I play (you obviously didn't look at my page...) so this is your fault if you are distressed.
I LOVE DISCO!!! Yes that's right, I said it. I really dig the whole soul funk through to disco thing, and even modern stuff like Jamiroquai and all. Reggae is loads of fun, and lately I have been playing a lot of latin and African based world music, I love those old rythmic beats, that started out as a means of communication and expression of emotion.
But pretty much any music that has a groove and people to move to it and I'm in heaven...

WoW, you have a very eclectic range of music styles
So are you just into disco music? or do you go the whole hog and wear the Spandex hot pants and stuff...LoL
Thanks for the help!
TF - The New Fast Automatic F-Reek - Now in DTS Posted Feb 18, 2002
Ani as in Defranco indeed.
ROFL, oh Jennie, if only I could find a way a sticking a photo on my page, I could show you such terrible (and funny) things.
I have been known to slide into the hot pants before for a gig, but generally disco is just an attitude.
But I normally prefer the polyester flared pants (I have a lovely light blus pair), and maybe a faux fur vest in animal print. I like to keep as tasteful as possible...

Jennie_R Posted Feb 18, 2002
Hmmm Faux fur vest! very tasteful indeed...LoL
I hope it's in Bright pink of Yellow! Now that would be cool
I only have one faux fur thing in my wardrobe, that's my lovely leopard print jacket (which i don't wear any more)
I got it when i was really into The manic street preachers, i went everywhere in it! But now it's just collecting dust in the back of my closet!
Thanks for the help!
TF - The New Fast Automatic F-Reek - Now in DTS Posted Feb 18, 2002
You know what would be really freaky?
If there was a big electrical storm and you went to your closet, and the jacket wasn't there, and then next day in the news you heard of some really brutal stuff with some unbelievable eye witness reports. And then during subsequent electrical storms the same things happened and then you felt you had this terrible secret and that if you told anyone they would think you had gone mental and then it started looking like it might actually be you like in fight club.
Clearly you have to be careful when making impulse purchases of animal print clothing because some items get annoyed when neglected....
The vest in question - which I look after and keep well fed - is bold leopard print, and oh so funky...

Yeah, that would be weird, but i would deny any of the strange happenings and blame it all on the previous owner
Oh i just thought...do you own any platform boots?? Really funky ones like David Bowie stylie circa 1972??
Thanks for the help!
TF - The New Fast Automatic F-Reek - Now in DTS Posted Feb 22, 2002
Not so much like David Bowie Circa '72, but I do have a pair of big funky boots with about 3" lift that I got from England. Thay have a laminated platform and are really funky.
I really would like to get a pair of those hi-lift men's clogs that were popular, for hardcore disco gigs, or just a pair of the platform shoes like Nile Rogers from Chic used to wear. Maybe nice light blue ones to go with my pants....
TF
Thanks for the help!
Jennie_R Posted Feb 25, 2002
Platform boots ROCK
But those clog thingies sound even better! I don't think i've seen them before
but i'm sure you'd look fetching in them
