If you are ever in Vancouver (seems like I'm trying to get half of H2G2 here for one reason or another), you will love the food. The city has an enourmously varied ethnic mix (about 1/3 Asian, 1/2 Caucasian, and the rest everyone else you could imagine). The restaurants are amazing. They are just going to do an advertising push to showcase the food here for tourists. We have something like the largest restaurant/people ratio in North America and in the top ten in the world. My block has East Indian, Japanese, Korean, Greek, and Italian and that isn't all that unusual here.
I'll buy you a kebab!

*rubs thighs*

I'm such a perve.
cl - Oh yeah. I forget you have big animals... It's easy for that kinda thing to slip your mind. Gah. I am so insular sometimes!!

Saturnine Posted Jan 14, 2003
I think the biggest animal in this country...is...um...deer.
No slang. I just can't really believe Bears still exist...

Hundreds, although the German hunters would like that number to be reduced. Used to be a big *tourist* draw until people said GET OUT!

I was informed the other day that my grandmother had a bear fur coat...my aunt now has it...which means I shall inherit it. Oh the benefits of being the eldest grandchild/niece... Although I also realised the other day that that is a heck of a lot of funerals I have to arrange. B****r.

I'll give you a list of animals from largest to smallest with an * before the ones that occasionally wander into our city:
Grizzly bear, brown bear, elk, *deer, cougar, *coyote, *racoon, *beaver.
Few and far between but they have been known to visit the outskirts- we even had a coyote kill some cats downtown years ago.
Funerals always make me sad. My dad died in front of me and I completely broke down at the funeral.

We have...um. Foxes. Rabbits. Badgers. Mice. Lots of birds. Deer (but not much wild stuff - protected by authorities). Ponies.
And the obvious farm stuff like cows and sheep and horsies and goats.
God, how dull.

I love the English countryside, especially the moors. Devon and Yorkshire are amazing, especially the little stone ponies- do they still have those?
Things.
Saturnine Posted Jan 14, 2003
The moors are disturbing to me - being the Moors murders connection.
Not really done that much travelling in Yorshire/Devon. So I couldn't tell you. But we have a yellow camel on a motorway near Bristol if that is any consolation? And Cheddar is a fantastic place to visit - caves and cheese and sweets and stuff.

Closest I ever came to you was a visit to step-relatives in Cardiff when you were about 10.
I sense I must not die before I see the camel...

Saturnine Posted Jan 14, 2003
Yuck. Wales.
The camel isn't *that* great!! It's just yellow, and sits at the edge of a field by a motorway!

Rarely you can see one from the ferry to Vancouver Island. A sick one came into the harbour here about three years ago. North Vancouver island (about 5 or 6 hours travel from where I type this) they are thick as fleas in August/September to feed on herring and salmon. Called *Orcas* instead of the old term *Killer Whales* because the only thing they kill are fish and a seal now and then. I know all about them because I spent 6 weeks chasing them (with scientists) for a documentary. Maybe one day with incredible luck I'll show them to you.

That has to be the fourth/fifth time you have mentioned the 6-weeks-on-a-boat thing...
I'm knackered, I have a huge pile of backlog jamming stuff up (go look if you don't believe me!), and I need to go to bed.
So therefore, I am off...I'll speak to you tomorrow...

clzoomer- a bit woobly Posted Jan 14, 2003
Well, excusemealltohell! I only mentioned it (over and over, ad nauseum) because it was a wonderful experience and you brought up whales.
Well, OK, I actually brought them up but you said something about them.

Saturnine Posted Jan 14, 2003
Ok then honey! G'night.
I crawl into bed saying "I will not have my lip pierced. I will not have my lip pierced. I will not have my lip pierced"
It's one of the most painful piercings...but it would really suit me

Saturnine Posted Jan 14, 2003
Nah, it doesn't get in the way...I've woken this morning without a piercing thought in my head. I'm just hungry...
