How to read "Neuromancer"
Hoovooloo Started conversation Dec 9, 2002
Well, you asked... and I know why. It's not an easy read. So, some advice:
1. Get hold of the Gibson short story collection "Burning Chrome".
2. Read "Johnny Mnemonic", "New Rose Hotel" and "Burning Chrome".
3. Do not, under any circumstances, watch the movie of "Johnny Mnemonic", for three reasons:
a: It's not *that* much like the story, so it won't help
b: It's cak.
4. If you can find it, you might like to check out the movie of "New Rose Hotel", starring Christopher Walken, Willem Dafoe and the totty from the recent Vin Diesel movie "xXx", Asia Argento. I've never seen it, but I've heard, well, mixed reviews. Which is more than can be said for "Johnny Mnemonic".
5. Now, with a bit of steeping in the Gibson milieu, have another go at Neuromancer.
6. And another.
7. Be glad you didn't try to read it fifteen years ago like I did, in the days when "cyberspace" was a new word, almost nobody had heard the word "internet" and science fiction meant "Star Wars" (there being no Star Trek except old-generation).
Good luck. It's worth it. Trust me, I'm an engineer...

Burning Chrome. Will do.
Thing is, it's annoying. I got Snow Crash (Neal Stephenson) out of the library at the same time - understood that crystal clear! But for soem reason I can't grasp hold of Neuromancer... ...possibly because I'm an eighties baby but a 90's child...
Will follow your advice. THANKYOU!
