Here is the delightful Caroline Cheese ...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tennis/8489082.stm

At 0837 (before the bully off or whatever they do in tennis) he's "British number one", and shortly after at 1-0 to Federer on serve it's "an encouraging start by the Brit".

Thereafter, as it all goes tits up within the space of three sets, he's only ever a Scot.

Piers Newbery ...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tennis/8489107.stm

... describes him as a Scot thrice and a Briton twice.

Did the measure of Henman's Englishness ever exceed that of his Britishness?

Look, here's a credible source:

Avert your eyes from such interests as "Lodge" or "Page 3 TV" and read the Marc Deanie column on the right.

No, I mean properly contributing: A87720384.

I have been following your pension discussion. Some bits of the public service here used to have something called "Defined Benefits" which meant that you got a multiplier (as a function of term of service) of your final pay-scale (over the last 1 or 2 years) to determine the pension. I reckon they saw where that was headed and changed new starters to "Accumulated Benefits" which is just a normal managed superannuation fund. There are of course some old "Defined Benefits" people still around, and will be until the last one leaves or retires.

It truly is a contribution. Doc - I have to wonder what on earth prompted it.
English Literature was not/is not one of my strong points. I would have to do quite a bit reading to put myself in a position to answer BOTH of the three questions. smiley - huh
It goes far beyond any Guide Entry. I becomes a category of it's own smiley - smiley
In my case it would take more than a week to do it justice.
I lurk to learn but time is short at my time of life. smiley - ok
As you have referred to I am well into my pensionable years. Still able to stand my round but more and more demands are being put upon the little that I gained in life. smiley - cheers
I'll draw Pinniped's attention to it. smiley - ok

+ve spin
British number one Andy Murray has been forced to pull out of the ATP World Tour Finals with a groin injury.

-ve spin
"I was told to take a week to 10 days completely off - I just didn't have enough time to recover," said the visibly dejected Scot.

If he was English, would he have been a "visibly dejected Englishman"? I doubt it.

Tough luck - Perhaps he should be branded "Andy Murray the tennis player from Dunblane in Scotland"
Englishmen are Brits whether they like it or not but a Scott is a Scott for all that. smiley - smiley
